Shana Tova!

I have: eggs boiled on the stove, beans simmering in another pot on the stove, and turkey broth in the crock pot. Yesterday I made spelt challah dough with DS, and then DD1 shaped the loaves after school and froze them. I need to bake those today. I also need to make the rice challahs for myself and assemble the rest of the food.

For tonight, we're serving challah with honey, then the special foods (apples and honey, dates, carrots, pumpkin pie, etc), then soup, then a foil pan filled with roast chicken, potatoes, carrots, and celery. Tomorrow's lunch will be our usual Shabbos lunch fare with salad, cheese, tuna salad, and egg salad. I'm making beans (with sauteed onions and mushrooms)to either warm up or serve cold on Saturday late afternoon, and we'll probably serve cold cuts as well.

Saturday night, I'm making a turkey boob with yams and "sweet spices" in another foil pan, to be cooked today and warmed up right after 1st day Yom Tov ends. For sunday I bought a piece of beef, to be cooked in another foil pan with potatoes, carrots, and onions. I haven't yet decided if I should just marinate the meat today and cook it on Sunday so it doesn't get overcooked, or if I should precook it and just warm it up on Yom Tov. Maybe I'll precook the veggies and warm them up when I cook the beef?

So why am I on MDC instead of in the kitchen? Oh, yeah, right. I wanted to have a breather before DS wakes up. Normally, I want him to get up when DD2 leaves for school, but with Yom Tov coming up, it makes more sense to let him stay on a slightly later schedule. Besides, if he sleeps in now he's less likely to be cranky later.
