No medical society in the world recommends male circumcision – yet newborn male circumcision is the most common surgical procedure in the U.S. This painful and risky procedure deprives over a million boys each year of healthy, functional tissue, while increasing medical costs by an average of $678 per baby.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is developing public health recommendations for the U.S. on male circumcision that could ignore the serious risks of this non-therapeutic surgery, such as hemorrhage, infection, surgical mishap, and death.

The CDC is the foremost expert on public health in our country and, as such, has a responsibility to share the truth about circumcision. Sign our petition to the CDC below and demand a truthful statement on the risks and harms of newborn male circumcision.

For further clarification, on Monday August 24, the New York Times published an article reporting on the CDC conference going on in Atlanta which all but stated that they plan to recommend universal circumcision to prevent HIV in the US, in a report due out later this year.

Although this is of course shockingly misguided and ethically appalling, the
good news is that representatives of the new umbrella organization Intact
America were on hand at the conference to tell the other side of the story. In
fact, Georganne Chapin of Intact American has been interviewed for a number of TV and newspaper spots.

Here's the article:

As ugly as it is, this is very positive exposure for the intactivist cause. But it's
important that everyone who feels strongly about this issue make your voice
heard at this crucial time.

The Intact America site makes it very easy for you to write a letter to the
editor of the New York Times to show your opposition to the CDC's stance.

Go to the following link, write what you want to say, or click on some of the
talking points suggested to add them to your letter, and click "send message",
and your letter will be mailed automatically to the NYT. Super easy!

You can also write similar letters of feedback to CDC staff and members of the
AAP Circumcision Task Force, although at this time that cannot be done through the Intact America site. See contact information at:
http://www.circumcisionandhiv.com/the-aap-project.html

Read more about the CDC issue at http://www.intactamerica.org, and
http://www.circumcisionandhiv.com/. Please make use of Intact America's "Spread the Word" feature on their top menu, to tell others on your mailing list about Intact America's mission. Also please sign the CDC petition on the site, if you haven't already. The time is now!

There are also currently several polls on sites spinning off of this stories on whether boys should be circumcised or not, or whether the CDC should recommend circumcising all boys are not. Please vote to keep baby boys whole!

Thank you! Your participation is important, needed, and appreciated!
