How do you say it, and why?

"Hyena" -- I know it has something to do with highly coveted/sought after diapers, but how is it pronounced? Like the animal? And wth does an ugly nasty animal like the hyena have to do with high-end swanky cloth diapers?!?

Are they ugly? I always picture the cartoon version in the Lion King.

I have no idea about your actual question though, sorry!

I have no idea I started hearing the phrase regularly about 1/2 way through CD my daughter (2002-2006)

Hi-e-na
Karen came into the hyena age as a very talented knitter second to her day job skills. She had a great gift for gorgeous embellishments.
She was an original member of the Fluff Factory.
Many of the once original FF group are also the original founding member stores @ Hyenacart since its infancy on or about 2005.
Hyena bait were originally a small select group of artisan, and the trend itself was birthed from a fairly small number of wahms, nothing in comparison to what you think of now.
IMO the market is swimming and the true meaning of Hyena is sort of getting lost with mass production diapers on the market. Its lost some of its excitement and in no way is nearly the hunt it used to be.

LoL - so the adrenaline rush I get when I see someone offering a batch of flawless used MEOS for $5 a pop on FSOT has nothing to do with being Hyena then I suppose? LoL. That figures.

Mother Ease One Size and a One Of A Kind piece of art are a bit different in my opinion. Originally I would have to say from my observations that Hyena Bait were originals, exceptionally well made, unique and artistic pieces. It shifted a bit to awesome fit or styles as they began to more develop. Eventually you saw more fabric trends and dying all factored into what made up some of the Hyena bait. I know there is more and I am probably just covering stuff on a superficial level.

Anyway, the adrenaline rush can be equally the same when you have an awesome find. Who cares if its hyena or not, if it fits your need at an awesome pricing, enjoy it how it comes.

Does anyone remember the diaper garden? I think that'swhat it was called. All I remember was that the dipes were beautiful veggie inspired numbers. lol They were real art, whether they caught poo or not. I scored several SOS when my older was a baby, in 2003, but other than that I just sat and watched. I started having a lot more fun after I got my sewing machine.

I was also building my stash and spending a lot of time on this board in late '02-early '03 when pg with my first. I remember hitting that refresh button on SOS stalking day and you couldn't get near a diaper garden dipe unless you were "in the club" and had promised your first born or something. As I remember it, someone commented on a thread that we all circled around like hyenas just waiting for a fresh carcass when it was the right day/hour/minute for a coveted store stocking and then the dips would sell out in seconds. As I remember things the term was coined by CD-buying mamas first and then the WAHMs started using the term in naming their dipes, and the hyena cart sprang up, etc.

That's my recollection anyway. Hope I'm not spinning any inaccurate tales.
