admitting defeat at night

So... i thought we had a nighttime system down. Put him to bed around 7 or 8 in a daytime dipe, then at midnight change him into a double or triple stuffed FB (usually one microfiber and 2 hemp) with a disana wool cover over top. He stays in that til he wakes up at 8. Didn't used to leak, now it is every single day.

I'm sooooo sick of all the waterproof pads under him, the smelly bed, the changing the sheets constantly. I relanoized the cover, nothing. Stuffed more into the FB, no, stripped the dipes, no.

My last guess is that the FB are too small on him and I need to order bigger. He's almost 20 lbs (5 months on saturday) and still fits a small, but I should get mediums. I just don't want to waste the money if I get more leaks. I'm SO ready to use seventh generation at night. That's what we use when we travel and I LOVE snuggling him all night with no wet spots.

AGGGHHHHH he is a really big pee-er. He nurses at lot at night and I'm not willing to change him after midnight because it wakes him up too much and he screams SO loud like you're sticking needles all over his body.

Also, he got diaper rash in the past few days from these new constant green poos, so when we travel this week I'll be able to smear him up with diaper rash cream in the disposible diapers.

I'd deffiently look into a few mediums I know I moved my DD into medium pockets at around 7 months and well under 20lbs she "fit" the smalls" but the mediums just worked better especially for nighttime diapering. The best way I could stuff it was also to take a microfiber towel and wrap it around a good hemp insert. That what when she wet the microfiber would imediently assorb the wetness but then it would pull it into the hemp "core" and lock it away doing this we avoided leaks.
SAdly FWIW in the end DD became more and more sensitive to the poly fabrics untill we finially had to give them up we ended up going to a sposie at night but it wasn't because cloth leaked...

I would try a bigger size FBs and make sure to put the MF on top of the hemp. The MF absorbs quickly, so that will pull it away and to the hemp. Good luck mama!

I too have struggled with big leaks at night. If you have a heavy wetter at night, disposables won't necessarily help. I've tried and we just leak out of them too (though 7th gen were pretty good compared to PC Green and Moltex Oko, I have never tried a mainstream disposable so can't compare to them.)

My solution? Keep it all in with a Dappi pull-on nylon cover, size Large. Those things can't leak. I line a typical AIO with two extra inserts with fleece against his bum so that he's not drenched then "bag" it all in a Dappi. I love those things for extra insurance at night and on long car rides or plane trips. I worried about lack of air circulation but he doesn't appear uncomfortable and we haven't had any rash or other nasty side effects. I change him right away when we wake up (I keep a fresh diaper on the bedside table so we don't even get out of bed).

One other idea to try which is more environmental than a 7th gen (I think), is to line your FB with a g-Diaper insert. They are super absorbent, you can use your diaper cream and they are safer to dispose of whether you compost, trash or flush.

Good luck!

My first baby was a very heavy wetter (and a chunkamunka), and IIRC we moved up to Medium FBs before he was 6 months old. I also kept swapping wool longies here on the boards until I found a pair that worked really well for him - and it was by no means the prettiest or most expensive pair, either! And those pull-on Dappis are, indeed, a miracle product for leak protection.

That said, if the nighttime leaks are very frustrating to you, then use a sposie and don't stress about it. Whatever makes nighttime most pleasant is the way to go IMO. If you're going to try another cloth approach for nighttime, dd and I been having a lot of luck with a small Thisties AIO stuffed with a large Thirsties hemp insert (the inserts shrink a lot in the wash). I think the leg gussets make a difference. You could throw on a Dappi cover too. Good luck!

We gave up for awhile with Ds, too, until we night weaned at 16 months and he stopped peeing so much at night.

The best we did during the heavy wetting stage was a pocket fitted (sewn my me) stuffed with hemp, and a wool cover. But I had to stuff it so much that his legs were stuck out to the side, and I decided it was ridiculous to do that. Using one sposie a day is not going to kill the wallet or the planet, IMO. It was well worth my sanity.
