second thoughts

the official school year hasn't even begun and I'm already having second thoughts about keeping my dd #1 (5y) home.

she went to 2 years of preschool and it was a great experience. had always planned to homeschool after that. I waffled a bit and even filled out the paperwork for school..we got sick the night before registration day and I thought it might be a sign from the universe that we should definitely homeschool.

So we've spent all summer now planning to home/unschool. DD #2 (3y) will be in preschool and I also have an infant. A major incentive to keep dd #1 at home would be to avoid the horrors of getting to and from school every day.

The problem is that dd #1 is DRIVING ME CRAZY! She is pretty much completely unmotivated and almost never plays alone. It's like she has to be constantly entertained and has been this way from birth. Dd #2 will play and play and play on her own and is tormented almost constantly by dd #1.

So today has been a horrible day and I am so ready to get dd #1 out of here and entertained. So maybe shipping her off to school isn't the answer I am just feeling like I will go insane having her here.

My oldest is just 4yo so we are not officially HSing yet, but i also have a 2yo and 4mo. I've been sitting down every morning with the 4yo to get him used to doing "work". I also give the 2yo "work" to do if he ask for it and read books with him too. You might just want to take it slow right now and get into a groove that you find works and then start into something more formal (or unformal depending on how you'll be doing your HSing) later on. You might need to think outside of the box to get her interested in doing some things on her own. This may not help, but do take it as a bad day and start again tomorrow. You're doing the right thing!
