how long after weaning to stop lactating?

Hello!

My son stopped breastfeeding completely 7 weeks ago. I breastfed my son for nearly 2 years and things went really smoothly both breastfeeding and weaning. However, I still have some slight lactation. (a few drips occasionally and if my breasts are squeezed there is a slight flow.

How long until my breasts stop producing? Is this a problem? With my first it took about 2 weeks until my breasts got the message that they weren't needed at this moment so this is really long for me!

It can really vary. If the weaning is more abrupt, the milk stays there a while. With very gradual weaning, the milk slowly dries up before the child stops nursing, and you may not notice any discomfort or fullness at all. When DS weaned, I was only a little "full" for a few days, starting about 2 days after his last nursing (since he was down to one nursing every 2 days before he stopped completely.) I can still express a few drops out of the left nipple, and he weaned over 3 years ago.

If he was still getting a significant amount of milk until right before weaning, it could take a few months to completely dry up. As long as there isnt' any real discomfort, I wouldn't worry about some milk after 7 weeks.

We weaned pretty slowly, down to one feeding a day for the last 2-3 weeks. I could express milk (a few drops) for a month or so and now colustrum, or whatever the clear stuff is. I don't know if that has anything to do with being pregnant again.

I don't think it's a problem, unless you're uncomfortable.
