Dog Name Help

I found out yesterday, which was coincidentally my birthday, that the application I turned in for a dog was approved! She's an 8 year old Cairn Terrier. She was found two months ago as a stray and named Blanche. I'm adopting her from a rescue. While I don't HATE the name Blanche, it reminds me of The Golden Girls! Does anyone have any ideas on names? I don't want something overly common, but it has to be easy to yell and for an almost-5-year-old to say. Also, pets are family members, so in our family, they get middle names too. Thanks in advance!!

That is so funny - I just got back from the shelter where I applied to adopt an eight year old Cairn Terrier! Ours is named Rosie.

I like classic lit. themed names. Or, browse the baby name boards and hit the themed names.

My mother has a dog named Hero (much ado about nothing), and once upon a time I had a cat named ophelia. I've currently got a dog Graeme (author/illustrator Gramem Base) and a dog Stone (the song, rainy day woman). I've always wanted to name something enkidu (epic of gilgamesh), but haven't had the opportunity. And someday, maybe a cat named grendel. Doesn't that just seem to fit?

So I'd say to think about what you like: music, artist, author or character, and go from there.

I've always wanted to name a dog Sprout. I just think it's very cute. And great for a small dog like a Cairn.

Congrats on your new dog!

Thanks for the replies so far!

Tree--how ironic!

Red--I like the idea, and will have to give it some thought. I know a Scout (To Kill A Mockingbird) so that's out. Atticus is a boy's name (TKAM) as is Canaan (Rapture of Canaan). I'll have to give it some thought.

Jen--Sprout is cute, but I don't think it fits her.

I'll have post a picture tomorrow. I don't know how to link on my new BlackBerry!

How about Gypsy Rose. I've always liked that name for a dog.
