What's with people these days ?

Here this lady is a grandma of two kids and even though I may think my mom is a bit nuts but this lady makes me grateful that I have my mom and how my son has her for a grandma.

Anyways, today was our resident bbq so this lady who lives around our apartment complex as in above my next door neighbor a real big headache including being a real grouch but some reason she's allowed to watch her grandkids which she treats horrible and other people's kids.

Well, during our bbq her grandson who is only 7 and going to head into 2nd grade .

Decided he wanted to have a cheese sandwich instead of a hamburger and she made such a big deal of it .

Saying to C that she's so unhappy that he didn't eat meat with his sandwich and was saying you might as well be in jail.

Jail is where they don't serve meat and they don't serve cheese there either !

I was like about to have my eyes bulging out sheeeeeeesh that over a cheese sandwich ??????? Which she didn't have to buy at least he was eating something instead of nothing ?

Sometimes I just wonder what parents consider safe raising enviroments to raise their kids in but her daughter lets her watch her grandkids and other people let her watch their other kids ???

I'm like what in the world are they thinking that is a good enviroment to have their kids to be taken care of even my old baby sitter virginia was better than that lady even though she was a heavy smoker at least she was decent & nice . Not rude when it came to discipline!

My mom would never talk to me or my son like that especially over food .

I was at the park a couple weeks ago and saw this young mother, her friend (or sister) and another friend (or younger brother) and 2 little girls who were obviously hers.

The older people let the younger ones run off onto the playground and said "Now dont leave the playground. Dont make me choke you out" and LAUGHED!!! Then later they were running around, laughing and the mom siad" When I catch you, Im gonna stab you!" They whole group was laughing hysterically and I was like this

I think it all has to do with movies out here and lately when there are movies that are supposedly family movies the way those family act in those theaters like for example I just saw a preview of a movie with Robin Williams whose known to be a very silly actor .

He was saying to his actor kid Be quiet at dinner or I'm going to choke you .

Then there was a bunch of laughter no wonder ppl think all this discipline stuff is funny it's because it's on really weird comical movies so they don't think it's a big deal but it's really a Big deal !

You know !

It's sad that family movies are really no longer decent anymore!

hmmm....

i am not sure. i think i am ok with it.

its a cultural thing. you reflect the culture that is around you.

we just never know what's going on underneath.

it may sound bad to your ears. but it might be a typical thing for them. no big deal.

what matters is the intention with which they say it.

perhaps that gma really exxagerates. and the grandson just rolls his eyes at her. my mom would say v. outlandish things thinking she was scaring us. but we knew she was saying it out of love and care and we would ignore it. i could totally see my mom saying the jail comment because she is so frustrated that we werent eating well.

i try not to take things at face value.

i think its not the definition of the word that makes it a 'bad' word, but the intention of how it was spoken that makes it bad. so in a sense 'butthead' could be an affectionate word, and 'you are so nice' could be a horrible thing to say if said in a mean sarcastic way.

if i tell my almost 7 year old 'eat that up or i will beat you up', she will roll on the floor laughing her head off. however if i deliberately say it enunciating every word . eat. that. up. right. now. she will quiver in fear.

"shrug" to each his own.

I have a friend who calls her son "gay" b/c he is afraid of things. It has been bothering me for a while but I am pregnant now and the last time it happened he started crying b/c he was scared of my sister's dog and she said "Don't be so gay...look at him, he's so gay!" and I started crying hysterically and asked her not to do that anymore. It just makes me so, so sad for so many reasons.
