The Shiver

I'm very interested to see how many of you notice your babies making a little shiver right before they pee. I noticed it with my first, who was in cloth and disposables, and we always laughed and said, 'oh look, he's doing a wee.' Second time round and EC'ing from birth and the shiver became a great way to pick up on pees before they happened. Around the time DS2 was sitting alone he started to shiver, which was perfect because DS1 would notice the shiver before I did, even it seemed when he wasn't actually watching him (?) and shout out to me that his brother needed to pee - useful!

Has that little shiver been useful to anyone else? What age did you first notice it? Did it go away with time? I haven't seen it in a few weeks and DS2 is 8 months now. He now only does it before a poo.

The other sign was The Cough: in the early months pre-sitting he and his cousin would both give a little dry cough-cough and then pee. Nice and predictable.

Oh yeah. We totally notice the shiver. In my experience it is more of a pee in progress sign than enough time to EC sign.

Good question about when it disappears. I honestly can't say I noticed when it disappeared in either of my girls, but my second is 8 months and I haven't seen it in awhile.

I've seen "the shiver" mentioned in a couple of books/websites, but we never noticed it ourselves. Sounds like a great clue!

maybe it's something only some babies do. I'll have to keep asking around. It's clearly not the norm.

DD totally does a pronounced shiver- makes a sound too- but its just as she's peeing- or seconds before- not enough lead time to get to the potty. But its funny!

There's something when she actually pees. Not long enough before to do anything about it, but when I'm in a position where I can't see if she's going (e.g. holding her over the bowl in the car) the sort of shift in her middle tells me she's released (even if there's no pee to release).

i noticed it with ds right at the beginning of the flow. but i also noticed it was listed in a proving for a homeopathic remedy, so i think (?) we gave him a dose to take care of whatever it was representing.
