what age is best for a babe to be in a back carry? dd is 4.5 mo and we love our babyhawk mei tai and ergo. but at 15lbs, front carry is hard for long hikes, but i thought she might be too small yet for back carry? what do you think?

We waited until around 6 months, but if you think your LO has enough head-control and won't mind not being tummy to tummy, try it out! Baby might fuss a little, not being close to your face, but just keep walking and bouncing around and they'll get used to it. I would suggest a lexi twist so that the straps don't move around and LO is more secure.

I wear my 5 month, 17 lb DD on my back in our Babyhawk. I've been wearing her on my back for about 2 months. If her legs are long enough to spread around your back/back of your waist, I say give it a shot!

Thanks! I'm new to this so a new carry is kind of intimidating...Any tips? And what is a lexi twist?

I really like using the lexi twist for back carries.

You just twist the straps around each other behind the baby's back. Here's a video. It helps keep the straps in place, and to me it feels like it distributes her weight more comfortably on me.
