Newborn in small covers?

To compare, my daughter was born at 8lb 2oz and was nearly 11 pounds at one month. The kid gained fast by eating around the clock.

I'm just going to assume the newb will also be close to the same size and gain at a similar rate...

Knowing that, I own all of three newborn proraps while I have several different brands in the small size (all starting at +/- 9-10 lbs). Right now I just am just focusing on prefolds and wondering if it's worth it to buy them in newborn size. It seems like I'd get more use out of just buying the small size and folding them to accommodate newborn covers while they fit and/or small covers just pulled extra tight.

Are you asking if you should bother with newborn sized prefolds? If you have an 8lb baby and it's like mine (8lb 3oz) once you milk comes in that newborn prefold won't hold enough.....I used them 3 days!!!! Now I'm using them as doublers in flats or spitup cloths......so no I wouldn't bother.

I can get an infant prefold in an xs thirsties....don't know about prorap.

Yeah, sorry, I was just curious if everybody else would skip the newborn prefolds.

Watch me plan this and then get a six pounder or something!

My two babies that have been cd'ed since birth were 9+ lbs and I only had smalls available because I did not want to spend the money on newborns. They did work okay but I have every intention of having a full stash of newborns on hand next time around. I know that is kind of pricey for the short amount of time, but I think it will be worth it especially since I don't think we will be done having babies any time soon.

I had two 7 lb girls and was expecting a similar size baby this time around, so I got preemie PF's and XS Thirsties. He was peeing out of the PF's within a couple of days. I am still using them, I just double up and use 2. I can't wait to get a bigger size though.

My nb was born at 7lb3oz and it would have been really hard to get him into infant pf's. He is somewhere over 8 lbs now (2 weeks old today!) and still fits comfortably in the nb pf's. I have some premie and don't hold as much pee because there are less layers, but the fit is fine. We often use a small hemp doubler or bamboo wipe folded in half to give extra absorbancy.

I think I could probably fit him in a infant pf now, but it would be bulky. Our biggest problem initially was to find something that worked with the cord stump - he was swimming in most of the covers, even our Thirsties xs's, with us trying to keep the cover below the cord...

So i guess my answer is you can probably get away with infant pf's - just be prepared to have them be a bit bulky at first.

We don't have any experience (yet!), but we skipped the newborn covers. We aren't opposed to to using disposables for the first bit.

(although I looked at the price of a package of newborn sposies, and nearly passed out the other day! )
