Advice on building newborn stash

I haven't CD an infant before so I need some advice on which size of prefolds & covers to get - mainly for the newborn period. For the infant period (3 months +) we plan on doing mostly pocket diaps. Of course that might change when we see how they fit the baby so I'm not stocking up on those yet since we'll have time to figure out what we like before we need to invest in those.

So, for the newborn period I'm planning on doing mainly prefolds & covers and just a few fitteds. Are there any pockets or AIOs that fit newborns well? I'm under the assumption from reading around here that people prefer prefolds & fitteds for newborns.

Here is the thing, my DD was 10 pounds, 7 oz at birth. At 2 months she was 13 pounds and at 4 months she was just under 17 pounds. So, I'm planning on this baby being big, maybe not a 10 pounder but all of the babies on both sides of our families (including myself & DH) have not been below 8 & a half pounds at birth. Anyway... so I'm trying to decide on what size prefolds & covers to invest in. I was thinking that I would get maybe 1 dozen of the orange edge GMD prefolds and then 2 dozen of the yellow edge. Should I get a dozen of the red edge just in case? And for covers - I'm guessing that I should probably start off with small and skip the newborn covers? I guess if I decide to try the Thirsties Duo wraps then I would be fine with getting the size one.

I think size 1 Thirsties Duos would be a good choice for you.

As for prefolds, maybe you wouldn't need the orange at all. Maybe just go right to yellows.

Pockets and AIOs that fit newborns:

XS FB
XS bumGenius 3.0 AIO
XS SposoEasy
S GAD (pocket or AIO)
