Probably silly air purifier question

When you see a square footage for an airpurifier is that only for one room?

For example our entire house is 720 sq total. If we got an air purifier that covered 900sq ft would it take care of the whole house if placed in a central location? OR do we need one for each room that covers less sq footage?

Are you sure it isn't cubic square feet?

The one I was looking at says its cleaning capacity is 900 sq feet. It does list the air flow speed in cubic feet per minute (different at different speeds from 40-240 cfm).

Does the 900 sq ft not mean the footage of a room or house?

I'm guessing that it would be okay if you have good air circulation between rooms and it was fairly centrally located. If the layout were such that airflow wasn't very good, I'd maybe get one or two box fans, but I'm sure that's influenced by how darn hot it is here, even with AC and overhead fans, we still have two box fans to keep us from melting.

I'd assume it really means square footage, and it's assuming a fairly normal ceiling height for a residence.

It should be fine, imo. Here is info about selecting air purifier size. (scroll about 1/2 down the page) http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...urifierBG.html
