I'm unsure what my next step should be. My baby is 3 months old, and I'm starting my 3rd week into work tomorrow. I nurse my baby at 7 AM. He's brought to me around 11:15 to nurse, and then I nurse him around 4:45 and throughout the evening/night. We co-sleep.
During the first week my baby refused the bottle of breastmilk for the first 3 days. The 4th day he refused the morning bottle and took 1 ounce in the afternoon. The 5th day he took 1 ounce in the morning and 5 ounces in the afternoon. He gained 2 ounces this week, and they suggest 4-7 ounces each week.
During the 2nd week my baby refused the bottle the first two days. On the 3rd day he drank 1 ounce in the morning and 3 ounces in the afternoon. On the 4th & 5th day he refused all bottles. He gained 6 ounces this week.
I need some suggestions about where I should go from here. My little one is obviously gaining weight like the paper says he should. The babysitter says that he's fussy at times (happy, fussy, happy, fussy ...), but she said that if you change activities or pick him up he'll usually stop crying which makes me think that he's not hungry. She said that when she tries the bottle it just frustrates him more.
I haven't tried a different bottle because he will drink out of it sometimes. Do you think I should have my babysitter continue offering the bottle to my baby? Do you think we should try a sippy cup? Do you think we should just forget the bottles and sippy cups and see how he does with just nursing in the morning, at lunch, after work, in the evenings/night, and weekends?
