11 month old rarely poops anymore!?! Please help me!

I have several issues going on but should start with this.... My son will be 1 year in a week and a half. He rarely poops anymore! And when he does it's an explosion. Last Sat., when he pooped for the first time in 8 days the poop had non digested food in the diaper (beans, corn) and it had me worried until I did alittle search on here and saw how that the consensus thought it isn't always a problem (although one or two thought this type of thing could be a food allergy or gut issue....) : I have been waiting to see what this next poop looks like but he hasn't gone yet and today will be the 8th day. He's pretty much completely bf'd, except for one meal that he's totally unenthusiastic about and actually only gets only a few bites down (he demands to feed himself with spoon now). I try to get the pureed prunes in him or pears ( I know to stay away from the apples, bananas, potatoes, etc.) anything to get him to go to the bathroom. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm starting to get alittle worried.......And the lack of interest in food; anyone experienced this? Should I be worried?

Does you ds act like he has a stomach ache? Or act like he's trying to poo but can't? If not, its not a problem. It sounds like he's living off breastmilk, which is highly digestible, and his body is using almost all of it, which is fine. Some foods are hard for toddlers to digest, corn, beans, rasins, all of these often pass through the system without full digestion, no big deal.

As far as not eating- some kids take to solids later than others, you should think about whether you think he's just hitting this milestone a little late, or if you think he has an aversion to having things in his mouth. If he has an actual aversion, you can see a speech thearpist or occupational thearpist about sensory issues that might be the problem. I would be sure to offer him food off your plate at all meals too- something soft he can gum up if you want to encourage him to eat more food.

Peace,

If it is mostly breastmilk in his diet and when he does poop it is a LARGE amount and it is not hard or very uncomfortable then it is fine. My babe would poop every 11-14days when she was mostly BM fed as more food was introduced her poops became more frequent. As long he is growing properly also their is nothing to worry about!

Thank you both for your input!! He finally pooped today but it was small....(?) Not hard though, kind of normal poop consistency and spirit-wise he seems fine, but since it had been 10 days since his last poop (which was the explosion) I was expecting a bigger one.......?

He doesn't act as if he has a stomach ache, as far as I can tell. He does get cranky here and there b/c of his napping/sleep issues (but that's another story). I've tried massaging his tummy in the hopes I can get things moving and he doesn't act as if that's painful.....The thing that puzzles me is we introduced food a long time ago, like when he was 5mo. and he pooped more frequently then than he does now. I don't think he has an aversion to having things in his mouth, he likes sampling the food, I think he's just become very picky about what he likes (starchy, sweet stuff rather than fruits and veggies. Gets that from when I was preg, I think).
