Is Bifidus Bad?

I was reading about SCD and the "no bifidus" rule, and also about other people who think bifidus is healing. Does anyone have personal stories or information to help me understand this better?

Search the posts of JaneS. She's found several studies that show how beneficial bifidus is. I know she discusses why Elaine Gottsell (sp?) came to the wrong conclusion on that point.

To me, considering that breastmilk if full of bifidobacteria and it's found in large quantities in the guts of babies, children and adults, I can't imagine it not being beneficial.

Kirkman's bifido was the only safe probiotic I found for DS. There were certainly times that it wasn't working so I would give him a break, then come back to it (like any probiotics, I only have assumed that the gut goes through phases of what it needs/doesn't need)
Overall I would say in our situation it was more helpful than not.

Thanks much!

Hmmmm.... I've been searching and reading for JaneS, bifidus, and SCD, and found the stuff on Lipinski (?) but not why Gottschall's bifidus info was flawed. Just curious.
