My 6mo son was diagnosed with whooping cough on Friday. Overall, it really hasn't been that bad. Not a walk in the park, but not as bad as some sicknesses can be. Our whole family did catch it, and I think it originated with DSS's half sister, who was already sick when he went there for a visitation weekend. 6mo got the worst case, I got the next worst (I believe thanks to my asthma), DSS and DH didn't get much of it, and DS1 & 2 are only just starting to get the paroxysms. We all started abx Friday and I still need to get the boys on some pbx.
DH came home from taking the older boys to the river, and tells me MIL (who is our childcare while we are working) has told him FIL is mad that we aren't vaxing (either prior or post-illness - why would we vax after getting the sickness?!?) and says our kids can't be over at their house anymore. Fortunately, MIL is willing to come to our house to watch DS2 & 3.
It just ticks me off - FIL had his chance to raise his kids, he doesn't get to tell us how to raise ours. His loss if he doesn't want to spend time with his grandkids; he wasn't doing much of that to begin with. I had a m/c last year, and not long before I m/c, his response to DH about the pregnancy was that DH should have gotten fixed, that we have too many kids (5 now). Never mind that he wasn't great to DH growing up either, telling him to either move out or drop out of high school to support himself. Too bad his almighty vaccinations won't be able to keep him safe from my overwhelmingly sick kiddos.
And for the record, I think I would rather have whooping cough myself than asthma attacks! My biggest concern was for my DS3 being so young. Beyond that, it hasn't scared me as much as it had before we had to deal with it!
