Help with a felting project!

I just knit up my second booga bag using really nice (Poems) yarn I got from the yarn store. It looked gorgeous after I knitted it up, and then I put it in a pillowcase (without a zipper, we don't have any zippered ones) and then into the washing machine with a bunch of towels. The result was aweful! I mean, it felted very well, almost too well. The whole thing is an uneven mess, and the bottom of the bag felted to the sides of the bag. I was able to pull that apart, but there are still ridges in the bag where a bunch of material felted together that I can't get apart. I did my best to make it look as even as possible, and I will use it as a bag, but I'm really disappointed in the result. I was going to buy a different colorway from the yarn store next time and make another bag!
The first Booga bag I made felted nicely. I used different yarn then, cheaper and of lesser quality. You can still make out stockinette stitch and the garter stitch at the bottom of the bag. That one, I just tossed into the washing machine by itself, I didn't even bother putting it into a pillow case. And it's much nicer-looking, even and everything.
So, here's my question. Where did I go wrong with my second bag? I would have thought it would come out looking nicer, since I used such beautiful yarn for it! Help!

Poems is known for some of those problems. Most of us use a 25-30% figure for felting; meaning the finished item will shrink 25-30% when felted; with Poems it's at least 50-60%.

The felted in wrinkles that you are talking about can sometimes be 'slit' very carefully with a sharp knife and sometimes steam pressing with an iron will help.

If all else fails- cut it up and edge stitch around it for coasters.
