Need advice about pumping pleeaaase

I have never had good luck pumping. I can never get enough to give the baby in a bottle. I just want to have bottles on hand for when I'm out shopping, or taking the kids to school, etc. I'm a sahm, so I don't need a lot, just for going out a couple of times a week.

When should I be pumping? After feedings? I've tried hand expressing and I have a medela pump-in-style. I thought getting a good pump would help things, but I still can't seem to get enough out.

Any other advice is welcome, thank you!

I pump one side while feeding on the other first thing in the morning...it helps with the letdown. I usually get about 4 oz...been doing it since DD was about 3 weeks old.

Right now I am pumping after DD's first feeding of the day since I haven't been able to co-ordinate pumping while feeding. I find that that is when I get the most milk.

i pump twice before my weekly outing. i pump while ds is feeding. i'm not coordinated enough yet to do both, so dh helps keep the baby in a good position while i pump. the milk flows much more freely and faster than trying it without babe sucking. but i'm new to it so maybe with practice it'll get easier too.

DD still nurses through the night, her last nursing usually around 6 am. I try to pump every morning at around 8 am. She doesn't get hungry again until around 9 or 10, so I feel comfortable pumping that milk and having it for another time. Milk production is at its highest in the am, so use that to your advantage.

Lots of water if you aren't already.

Baby "porn": look at your baby; visualize your baby going after the breast; look at your favorite photos of the baby; think about the baby eating.

Shoulders down, lean forward a little, and relax!

ETA: Another possibility is letting your LO get one breast "going" then switch him to the other while you pump that breast. This might require assistance though....
