Bloody stool in 1 year old (x-posted)

Ds2 has had symptoms of GI trouble for the past year, and we are waiting for his appt with a GI at Children's Hosp on Sept 15. This morning he has had 2 diapers with a little diaherrea, LOTS of mucous, and a little bright red blood (Sorry! TMI! ). I'm waiting for a call back from the pedi to see whether this is considered serious or if we should just wait for his Sept 15 appt with the GI.

If your child had GI bleeding, I would love to hear your story! I have no idea what to think of this! Ironically, ds does not seem to be experiencing as much pain as he does at times, but this is the first bleeding incident.

Ours was dairy allergy and (I think) gut flora imbalance issues. She was 2 mos. and I cut out dairy while BF'ing and we (her and I both) also started a probiotic, both of which helped immensely.

Has your child been on antibiotics? If so probiotic supplements might really help. (And I think they help regardless when GI issues present.) We take VSL#3 prescribed by our dr. but there are lots at the health food store too.

There is sooooooo much great info here on gut healing, you are in the right place! Here is a "cheat sheet" with more links to read than you probably are bargaining for, LOL.

Good luck! There are LOTS of things you can do to help without having to wait for the GI appt.

Our DS has had a little tiny bit of bleeding from what we have finally figured out is a dairy allergy. The pin-point bleeding came from very obvious spots on his skin though (when the dairy comes out it creates an instant almost burn-like looking rash!) If he has allergies this could be creating irritation inside. Good luck with the GI appointment! We think we're finally on the right track and going dairy-free (in addition to egg and soy free.)
