hi ya!
we moved to the UK in January (into our house in March) and with #2 on the way in October, i am very aware that i haven't yet found my tribe over here! (I'm canadian, DH is American)
we live in Winslow (bucks). is the LLL really good in Oxford? it would take us about an hour on the bus, but i'm willing if it means meeting some crunchy mammas! any other places to go to meet other mammas?

I don't know where Winslow is but I am in Milton Keynes, which is probably not too far. I don't think our local LLL is active anymore but we could try to meet up somewhere. I am American with a French DH. We've been here for a year already, and don't have a car...

IME, most NCT groups have a crunchy splinter group- you'll sometimes find them lurking at the homebirth support groups. The Quaker meeting house will often house the hard core APs because the two values overlap so neatly, so get the list of your local toddler groups (available from your local council) and look for one housed therein. There's also the breastfeeding cafes and other breastfeeding support groups run by peer supporters. Also, keep your eye on your local LETS and freecycle to spot the other crunchy mums. I met one of the other posters here (mum21andtwins) initially through FC.

There's a slingmeet in Oxford with a sling library where generally crunchy folk go. Here's a link to the group around where you are There is also an Elimination Communication group somewhere in Oxford although I'm not sure where. There is a UK EC yahoo group too.

Winslow is closer to MK than Oxford I think? Have you tried hanging out at Ikea and ambushing people who are breastfeeding or babywearing?

There are definitely (fairly) crunchy people in MK. Well, one or two at least...
