Books on Writing-- Motivation and Inspiration for Writers

Hi All,

I have a ton of books on the craft of writing. I thought I'd share a few that have been helpful to me when it seemed like the words weren't flowing, or I needed some confidence in myself as a writer. Here they are...and feel free to add yours to the list, as well.

If You Want To Write by Brenda Ueland. Get this book. It's so good. Less on craft, more on inspiration. You will want to write immediately.

My most faorite is Making a Literary Life: Advice for Writers and Other Dreamers by Carolyn See. :

This Year You Write Your Novel by Walter Moseley. A totally kick-butt, extremely practical book. Full of nuts and bolts advice.

The Forest for the Trees: An Editor's Advice to Writers by Betsy Lerner.

And I'll second Carolyn See's Making a Literary Life. It took me awhile to get into it because I really couldn't relate to the woo-ish "I must be kind to myself and give myself permission to write" stuff at the beginning (because frankly, I don't have a problem "giving myself permission" to to what I want). But once she got past that and into the practical stuff, I loved it.

Huh, I didn't even remember the give yourself permission to write part (I also don't have this problem), but I loved the practical stuff AND the give yourself permission to buy jewelry .
