Where's my cervix?

I'm one of those people who is very familiar with their girl parts. I think it's important to know where things are, how they work, etc.

So I'm shocked to find that I cannot find my cervix at all. I feel a huge baby head, but no cervix anywhere, no matter how many positions I twist myself into. DH can't find it either.

I'm really needing advice right now...is it still posterior?? Or is it not recognizable when effaced?

I'm not UCing at this point, but my midwife refuses to do any internals and won't help at all with things like this, so...yeah...lots of questions. Thank you!

funny - I am having the exact same issue today. I'm 37+1 and first thought I was just to posterior, but it's really just not there so my best guess is is that it is very thin. (this made for quite the conversation during some loving tonight!!!)

you have 4 more weeks? could it be anterior - not as common, do you remember from your last pregnancy??

good luck!!!

nooo...not four weeks, please! I was due last Sunday. I never felt around in my last pregnancy, so I have no idea what it was doing then, but the then-midwife found it without problems.

During my last pregnancy when I was full term I tried to find my cervix and so did DH but I couldn't feel it at ALL and he wasn't sure if he could or not. I think it is kind of hard to reach on your own at this point. I did see someone post a website about checking your own cervix last week. I think it said the easiest way is standing up.

I had trouble reaching it towards the end when I was pg with dd as well, it seems to be further up all of a sudden, thats when I was close to going into labor though, prior to that I was able to feel it just fine. As some point it does get so mushy that you can't really tell but for me I couldn't feel it anymore once I started dialating, I ended up having dh check (he wasn't too thrilled) and after the second time he got the hang of measuring how far dilated I was but this was during labor.

sorry I read 9-23 instead of 8-23 - so I hope you go into labor right now!!!!

good luck

Having this same issue. I would expect my cervix to be low and thin and open, but I have to cram back to reach it at 37w4d!!

What gives?? When will it drop down and open? Shouldn't it happen sooner when a person has had several kiddos??

I couldn't find my cervix right before labor. It did "appear" again during labor though . Maybe this is a sign?

this caught my eye as i can't find mine either, just the baby's head.

Try laying on your back and propping your hips up with your fists under them. Might find the cervix wayyyy behind the baby's head.

No, not necessarily. Most of the time very little dilation occurs til just before labor starts. It doesn't take as long, so it usually doesn't start dilating til later. Some women do efface/dilate a couple weeks before, maybe up to 4 or so. But with mine, I stayed at 2 til I actually kicked into labor, and had the babies within a few hrs. you probably have at least a couple weeks to go...
