Sore on the tip of DS's penis

DS (2) seems to have a sore on the end of his foreskin.

About 1/4" at the tip of his penis has been red lately. I thought it was just due to sitting in a wet diaper too long, etc. But today I noticed that there is a small red sore. It isn't bleeding. It is definitely tender. It doesn't seem like anything is seeping out of it (definitely not puss- possibly clear fluid).

Any thoughts? Would you take him to the pedi right away, or just give him lots of naked time and see if it gets better? Would a warm bath hurt or help?

Sounds most like diaper rash.

Naked time is good, baths are fine. A good diaper cream should help (we used Burt's Bees.) If he wears cloth diapers strip them.

If it doesn't clear up, or gets worse, I might start thinking yeast.

I agree. I'd say strip the heck out of your diapers if you use cloth. Use vinegar and hang in sunlight to dry.

He probably just scratched himself. If you said it looked irritated before then he it is likely he was messing with it and irritated it more. If he keeps playing with it, I would actually avoid the naked time. Sometimes boys irritate the wound more by being naked. My son has hurt himself on several occasions and a reddish sore formed. I usually put diaper ointment and it helps.

I agree with the pp's sounds like a scratch or diaper rash that is having trouble healing due to being wet so much. Put a big bunch of barrier cream on there and if you fell like you should use some otc bacatracin on it that will help it heal a bit quicker.
