What do you make of this?

DS1 has been allergic to dairy all of his life. For some time now, maybe a year, he has been able to eat things that have dairy very low on the ingredient list. Recently he has had a few tastes of things and has not had a reaction that we could see or determine. So I talked to our family doctor about introducing some dairy to see how he does. She recommended yogurt since it has good bacteria. We bought some yogurt, and he tried it. He almost immediately got a flushed look and seemed off, but I thought it was me being paranoid. Last week we were on vacation with my mom. He begged for a bite of her ice cream, so she gave him one. No reaction. Then he wanted some pizza, so he had a small sliver. Again, no reaction. He insisted on bringing the rest of the pizza home and has eaten a little a few times. So yesterday we were at Trader Joes and he wanted chocolate yogurt. I decided to let him try again. He came home, started eating it, and almost immediately he got flushed so I ran him to the bathroom and he threw up.

I really don't know what to think. Any thoughts on what is going on? This is all so new and foreign to me. Dairy free, all the time, is what I know for him. Attempting to give him something that used to be like poison is so strange to begin with, and having such mixed reaction/non reaction is beyond confusing.

My thoughts on what is going on: don't give him dairy. IMO, this is a fail.
DS1 used to throw up only after eating pizza.
However, some people can "handle" small amounts of their allergen so long as it's cooked/baked. That my be something similar to what you're experiencing, but I myself wouldn't risk it.

I had a talk w/ my mom today who is is a medical professional (nurse practitioner). She agreed that we should continue to avoid dairy. So we will. It is actually easier on me to do so since DS2 and I are dairy free.

I'm glad to hear that. I hope I didn't come across too strongly earlier. I was sort of in a rush.

You didn't come across strongly! No worries. Thanks for the input.
