Super-wetting infant or just not the right combo?

Hi.

My DS is 3 months old. I'm having issues with wet leaks. I use a combo of diapers:
  • Kissaluv fitteds with Nikki wraps or Green Earth wraps [similar to Nikki's]
  • pockets [HH [prints] & Swaddlebees] with Loopy-Doo + another microfiber insert
  • prefolds in a Super Whisper Wrap often with a microfiber insert wrapped in the prefold
This is for daytime. During the day, my biggest issue is wicking through the PUL of the covers and/or the binding around the legs of the wraps. With the pocket dipes, I also have poop explosions out of the legs.

At night, I usually stuff a pocket [either the one FB I have or a Swaddlebee] with a Super-Doo insert + a Hemparoo insert or one Loopy-doo + 2 Hemparoos. Baby sleeps fairly well, stirring to nurse, so I latch on, and nurses practically in his sleep, and then he's asleep. I hate to wake him to change him, so he wears the same diaper from around 8, 8:30 in the evening, til 7 or 8 the next morning. By morning, the inserts are SOAKED and often leaking/wicking. I'm frustrated cuz I keep hearing that Super-Doos are the solution for heavy wetters.

I have a front loader/HE machine. At the same time I got the Loopy-Doos and Super-Doo, I bought some Tiny Bubbles detergent that is supposed to be good for diapers. When I wash, I use a scant scoop of the Tiny Bubbles, a couple drops of TTO [maybe this is my mistake?] for disinfecting, and some vinegar in the rinse cycle. I use the Sanitary cycle on my machine with the "Stain fighting" feature which is supposed to make it even hotter than plain ole "Sanitary". The other week, I did a regular wash, and then ran a whole nuther 3 hour Sanitary cycle with the Stain thingy without any detergent, just a little vinegar in the rinse, but I haven't noticed a difference.

I did the water test on my fleece inserts of the pockets, and the water beaded for a minute, and then did soak through.

I just don't know what to do. It seems no matter what diaper I use, I end up with wetness around the legs of his onesies and/or poop everywhere.

Sanitary will destroy the PUL and elastic on diapers b/c it is way too hot.

Other thoughts are the pockets are stuffed too thick to meet around his legs, hence leaks and blowouts. Also onesies and cloth diapers do not mix b/c the onesies have a tendency to get stuck in the leg holes of the diapers and cause wicking.

A guaranteed leak-proof cover is the Dancing Bears fleece soaker. You can use prefolds or fitteds underneath but we never have leaks in this overnight.

How often are you changing during the day? I wasn't a big fan of the kissaluv diapers cause they get like sopping wet liek a drippy towel fast. For the other covers if they are wicking and pull covers you can invest in a waterproofing spray most camping sections at stores will carry it. Spray and let cover dry totally (leave for like 2 days) and there pretty much good as new for quite a while. Do it in well ventilated area or outside but one dry perfectly safe to be around baby. Don't overstuff pockets I almost always had pocket leaks when I over guessed the stuffing I also found like a prefold or microfiber towel the softer more pilable inserts better than the stiffer and often more slender inserts that would leave gaps. Also do conder fleece repell issues if your chid is a heavy wetter even a moment of beading could mean leaks as the pee flows to the edges before it had a chance to assorb. I know this will sound stupid and I make NO promises but back in our pocket days (fuzzi bunz) I found that washing in dreft actually restored all my pockets they no longer repelled anymore on the flip side using a water softener like calagon that was big time reccomended them cause HUGE assorbancy issues.. Go figure.

Deanna, I change him every hour or two while he's awake. It doesn't seem to take much to make the pee wick through the PUL or the casings. Sometimes the insert[s] aren't even wet all the way. I'll look into the water-proofing. I did several extra rinses this last time I washed dipes; I'll do the water test to see if it helped any.

Galatea, I've never heard anyone make that comment about the sanitary cycle before.
This last time that I stuffed, I put just one Loopy-doo in the pockets; they still wicked, so I don't think it's an over-stuffing problem.
I don't really feel able to invest any more in this size. He's already over 15 pounds, and I've got a huge stash of medium FB and Super-doos for when he outgrows this stage.

Thanks for your comments/advice.
