Already!?!?! (vent)

Already I got the paper asking permission for my kids to get both the flu vax/mist and the H1N1 vax : they wont be doing it until November but they want to know now so that they can get enough doses in for everyone.

For the flu vax you get a choice between either the vax or the mist and the H1N1 is to be given twice 3 weeks apart. Both my kids will be staying home that day which I hate doing since they only get 10 days a year to miss without possibly failing : but I will not risk my dd's life on a simple mistake (she has egg allergies so cannot get either vax due to the egg content).

Dang it why do they even do this during the school day at all : then I wouldnt have to worry about it. :::

You can go to school with her this day and stay in or outside the classroom the entire day to make sure she doesn't get vax'd.

Yeah that is an option but I really cant see me sitting in the hallway for 8+hours : I really dont think that a mistake will happen but there is a chance that it would. Crap happens as they say. Her teacher this year is already PO'ed at me because she has left early twice so far and will be missing all day monday. *sigh*

Well, if you take a snack and a book to read 8 hours will fly pretty fast. Also you could ask her teacher if she lets you to sit in the class somewhere on the back.

I would need to sit in the hall by the shot room since I also have my ds in the school. I am already the "weird" parent that sure wont help my reputation there

since you have advance notice sign them up for independant study for a few days as if you're going on a family trip...this way they get attendance credit.

My thoughts exactly.
I haven't gotten anything from the school yet, but will be keeping my girls home from school if they are doing vaxing there...

Most districts have it available because the kid is still considered in attendance and they still get their money that way.

The way they did it last year was give everyone a shot until they ran out then switch to flumist for the rest. Not thrilled about any of it but the mist really bugs me. DD didnt get the flu in all the past years they have been doing this thank goodness. I have only had the flu once in my life and I do not want a repeat if I can help it.

Something to look into for sure. Because of the no child left behind thing each kid must have a 90% attendance rate.

The flu shot could be coming soon than you think!

The White House is pushing for vaccine manufactuers to "rush" the vaccines to maket so that the vaccination campaign can begin a month earlier.

"Fill and finish" needs to begin immediately because swine flu is a "serious threat to our nation."

DO you get the choice for the h1n1 also? If not, which is it going to be? (the flumist, or the injection?)

Not sure I am understanding what you are asking. Did you want to know if there was a choice with the n1h1 shot or mist? If that is the case then all I can say is the shot is the only option listed. For the regular flu vax it is listed as both shot and mist.

I would send the not back with a ALLERGIC TO EGGS NO FLU SHOT. I would call the nurse the teacher and the principle. Let them know he is allergic to eggs. Then remind remind remind

Yeah I plan to do that as well. The paper has a place to check mark Yes or No then a place for the childs name and parents name. I got out my trusty red marker and wrote NO!!! across the body of the letter checked no with a big red X put the kids names on. But I am not putting my name on there so there is not mistaking that I signed it in case they miss the big huge red NO on there

The school nurse is well aware that dd is egg allergic and that I have religious exemptions on file, she is also dh's cousin so that helps but she may not be there. The local hospital is bringing in the shots and the Dr./nurse to do them.

Yes... if the shot was the only option, then that answers the question for me. That's pretty scary, there's no telling what is going to be in those shots. I still can't get over how they give shots in schools these days. They never gave any vaccines when I was in school (K through 12th) and I just can't believe that is considered acceptable nowadays for them to use our schools as doctor offices! They did do an eye check at the beginning of the year, as well as a spinal check for scoliosis, and I thought those were weird enough as it is to be doing those things in school lol
