They have a option to have a free physical at the school if you want. The parents can choose to be there or not. They also do yearly eye, hearing and dental checks during school hours with parents permission or not since last year I declined the dental check and they did it anyway :

If I *did* send my kid to school that day, I'd write gigantic "NO! FLU SHOT"s in red sharpie on both arms and the lower back.

Not a bad idea. If my children were in the public school system, no way I'd send them on the day or couple of days they were doing the vaccinations. I worked in the schools and the level of disorganization at times is remarkable. On top of that, those administering the shots will have a deeply held belief that they are saving all those children. They will also believe that parents of children not allowing the shots are terrible parents who do not have their own child or other children's best interest at heart. Consciously or unconsciously a shot could easily be given to a child who had a parent refusal.

They have gone into the schools for the shots because children are the most defenseless group in our society. They are easy targets. It's that simple. Pregnant women are a close second so they get targeted as well.

No idea how many participated last year but I do know that some are choosing to get them outside the school because I saw 2 kids showing off their flu shot arms

I know, and they think that most people can't make an informed choice for themselves, that most people need the government or over-arching medical organizations to make decisions for them about their health. Because of course they know everything.

If it were me, I would take extreme steps to make sure the nurse, teacher, etc. knows ahead of time about her allergy, and that she is never to receive any shots. At my DD's school, they never give us heads-up about which day anything is taking place. So I wouldn't know *which* day to keep her home, kwim?

I did tell ds's teacher that under no circumstances was he ever to get a shot at school and I trust her to remember that. I am the only parent by the way that turned in the sheet with the big huge NO!! on there The school nurse in my case is dh's cousin and knows I have the exemption for vax and that in the past I have always sent back the papers for the flu shot with that big NO on there.

I do need to tell her teacher and remind the nurse though. They do always tell the day the shots will be given here or at least have in the past.
