Quick! I need help!

Um, so I'm pregnant. And still nursing my 18 month old.

I find myself in a category I have very little information about. I had planned on weaning my LO around 2 years old but the guess is that would be around a month before or after the next LO is born.

That strikes me as a pretty bad time to wean.

And there were concerns about early labor (I delivered healthy baby at 34 weeks) is it safe to nurse during this pregnancy?

I'm not actually asking you to answer these questions but if you could point me in the direction of some reliable information about it I would be eternally grateful. I like to be "shored up" with info prior to talking to the OB so I can ask questions or even bring out another point of view if necessary.

I had done so much reading before my first pregnancy but about the nursing/pregnancy question I'm clueless!

Thanks!

I think the book "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" has a section on nursing in pregnancy and weaning considerations.

Never done it myself as my first sign of my 2nd pregnancy was my first abruptly weaning, my milk had vanished!

I think your doctor/midwife will be cautious about you breastfeeding and will likely want to monitor contractions and dilation in the 3rd trimester.

I just started reading "Mothering Your Nursing Toddler" and I haven't gotten to the part yet, but there is a section on nursing while pregnant, tandem nursing, and also a section on weaning (with gentle methods if you decide to go that route).

Congrats on your pregnancy!
