Moth proof yarn for soakers?

I was so excited to go and pick out yarn to try and knit some soakers for DD and I happened to notice on two out of my three skeins of yarn that they say "permanently mothproofed." So I looked it up and I'm thinking now that I shouldn't use it... thoughts? If not for soakers, then what? (I bought it 3+ hours away from home so returning it won't work.) And last question(s)... does wool have to be labeled mothproofed if it is? Anything else to look out for?

I never dreamed there would be potential issues with wool except for possible itchiness.

Good question! I've never had a problem with moths and wool yarn. I'm not sure what they did to "permanently mothproof" it. It might not hold its water-resistance and lanolin properties if it has to go through some sort of mechanic or chemical process to be labeled that. I've never seen that before. Maybe someone has more info!

For me, the only issue with wool yarn is finding super soft, no itch, like you said. And that is usually just through getting nice quality, long fiber wool.
