Help! Need inspriation and a pattern!

My 2 girls (4 and 2) are going to be the flower girls at my cousins wedding. Its in late September.

We went in for the dress fitting today and it struck me that their dresses were all sleeveless! Its a late afternoon wedding but the girls will be in their dresses all day and into the dinner reception (7pm-ish).

I'm thinking that they'll need some kind of cover up so that they don't get cold while they're outside taking pictures and into the evening.

So help me brain storm please! I need something that is quick to knit, comfortable, reasonably warm and most importantly will be suitable for tea length flower girl dresses in off-white/cream. Anyone have any ideas, patterns, links?

I was thinking of knitting a simple lace cardigan for each of the girls but considering that I only have 3 weeks, it might be stretching it ALOT. My other option is to sew something up, maybe a fleecy poncho? That would be pretty quick but I admit it, I'd love to show off my knitting skills if I can.

What about shrugs? A simple shrug is basically a rectangle with a short seam on each end and are very quick to knit.

Something like this:

or this

This would be cute too and looks like a quick knit.

My MIL knit some stoles for our flower girls using some fluffy yarn: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...&pictureid=644

Don't have a pattern though, sorry!

Two top-down raglans in a simple lace. First, get both done down to the armhole. Then do the arms on both. Then, if you have time, knit downwards.

I can't help (it would take more than two weeks to ship it to you) but I'd try and find another knitter to do one of the cardigans for you.

Hi Helen, thanks for the offer! I'm actually already doing what you suggested. Top down raglans in a worsted weight (for speed). I'm down to an inch below the armpit and am doing the sleeves right now. I thought that if I get at least that much done then I can continue on with the torso part with whatever time I have left. Maybe a crochet lace at the bottom...

Just because the sweaters will most likely only be worn for that one day I decided to cheap out on the yarn and bought acrylic stuff. Boy am I rethinking that now. I HATE acrylic. It feels squeeky, its too shiney, fuzzes up relatively quickly and...it looks cheap! I'm normally a natural fibers gal and I'm reminded now why.

Also, is it my imagination or is that things knit with chunkier yarn always look more casual and that things knit in a thinner yarn look more formal??!

Nope, not your imagination. FWIW, if there's a next time try sock or laceweight on 5mm needles

Hopefully there won't be a next time where I'm so crunched for time. I usually knit in lace and sock weight but needed 2 sweaters in 2.5 weeks so it had to be chunkier this time.

I just finished the first sweater. Raglan 3/4 length, slightly puffy sleeves with crocheted trim. The sleeves and hem of the sweater is done in a shell pattern. Now onto the 2nd sweater!
