I am really sorry this happened to your son. No one should have to endure what he did. Only you can decide what you need to do as far as sueing, educating, etc.

Something I do have an issue with is your comment about the McDonald's coffee. I realize that this has become a joke in the US but that coffee was too hot, the woman was 76 and sufferred 3rd degree burns over 18% of her body (primarily thighs/groin) and it required 2 years worth of treatment including skin grafts. That too was no joke.

As a nurse myself, I totally agree. I am responsible if I intentionally or accidentally harm a patient. Regardless of what you do, please consider sending the bill from the pediatrician to the hospital (and copy the ER Director). After all, had they not harmed your son you wouldn't had to see the pediatrician the next day. They may or may not pay the bill, but it will get their attention and the nurse involved will be questioned.
