Organic Latex Mattress Question

I just recently bought a Savvy Rest latex mattress (dunlop), after about a year of researching, reading reviews, and testing a floor model out (with the configuration I ended up buying). DH and I put the mattress together and slept on it for the first time last night. I have a soft/soft/medium configuration, and I honestly felt like I was sleeping on concrete. When I tested the floor model out with a soft/soft/medium configuration, it was not nearly as firm as what I slept on last night. DH has a medium/medium/firm configuration, and was very happy with it. Has anyone ever experienced this? I have spoken to both Savvy Rest and the store I bought from, and we are working on a solution, but I am curious if anyone else has found latex mattress WAY more firm than expected. I did not expect as squishy soft as memory foam, but I did expect that the mattress would mold to me better. We are trying flipping the latex pieces to big holes up, and unzipping my side of the cover.

Any advice from veteran latex mattress users would be greatly appreciated.

Was the floor model you tested Dunlop or Talalay? Talalay is supposedly softer. Was the floor model on a platform/solid frame similar to the one you're using at home?

Not sure what flipping it to big holes up is going to resolve - big holes side is supposedly firmer than small holes side.

We just tested the Savvy Rest last weekend - and the Soft, Soft, Medium was quite squishy - I'm quite surprised yours is proving to be too firm.

The floor model was a dunlop, and was on a slightly different platform, one that was actually not quite as open as what we have. From everything I have read, I am totally shocked that it feels so hard. When we tried the floor model, it ws really comfortable, and since we opened the bed up and rearrange layers several times, I am pretty confident that it was dunlop.

I had a couple of nice long conversations with the retailer I purchased from, and he is really surprised as well. I am not sure why, but the big holes up does seem to have made a slight difference. Maybe since the holes are bigger, there is more space for the latex to squish around, even though it is slightly firmer on that side? He also suggested leaving the cover partially unzipped as well. I am going to give it another try tonight and see how it goes. After speaking with him, I am also considering trading one of my layers for a talalay layer. I hate to have to do a layer exchange, but it is all about getting good sleep.

Other than that little glitch, how are you liking it?

I'm still trying to convince my DH that's the way to go, and I'm running out of time.

It is a wonderful mattress. No small individual pressure points like you get in a spring mattress. Putting it together was so much fun, and so satisfying. Our bedroom honestly just feels so much cleaner, and my headaches seem to be lessening (I suffer from horrible migraines).

If you can get one, I totally encourage you to just go for it. Just make sure you really really test drive one if you can before ordering so you don't end up with a possible layer exchange. And when I talked to the retailer on Wednesday, he says that he has a Talalay top layer for his 3 year old daughter's bed. I am thinking that I may switch out for a single layer of the Talalay for the top layer in order to get it a bit softer. Of course, I worry that it might be too soft, since the Talalay seems sooooo much softer than the Dunlop.

I sell Savvy Rest and have had a few customers have this same issue. I am not quite understanding it either - but recently I was told the latex supplier changed their molds and the soft that is now available is slightly firmer than what your store may have on their floor. If you are one of those people who got latex that was firmer than the floor model you should notify your store and they should replace their sample latex. And Savvy has switched layers out for my customers - but being that there is no Dunlop as soft as the "old" dunlop - I would suggest going to a Talalay top layer.
