Sling - Style and Substance

Based on comfort, fit (I'm short at 5'1.5"), and (importantly, but not most) style what sling would you recommend? Right now we have an Ergo (Black), a Moby (Pacific) and BabyHawk mei tai on the way, and plan on getting a woven wrap a little further down the line (torn on that one too, suggestions would be great).

I'm liking the Storchenwiege Ring Sling, Hoppediz Ring Sling, the Maya Wrap (maybe the solid red, not loving the others), and the Sakura Bloom Pure Ring Sling (I think the Linen version is just a touch too pricy for us) - so what would you get? Colour recommendations based on your wearing experience would be nice, I'm leaning towards some colour!

That's hard because all of the ones you are looking are are GREAT ring slings! Personally, I'd just pick the color you are liking most and go with it. You really can't go wrong with that list.

I'm not sure if you are looking for a new kind of carrier or just a new look for your ring sling collection, but If you like Sakura Bloom, a WAHM friend of mine can make similar slings for a fraction of the price, she will customize for you as well. Here's an example:

They are also the best designed sling I've ever used since they cup the shoulder and spread over your back really well.

I make silk ring slings for all my prego friends and here's why I love them- they're very lightweight, can make you feel good when you're in jeans, and fab for a night out on the town, they dry really quickly, and for me, I like that there's no padding, since I'm only 5'4" and so any padding makes me feel like a linebacker. Also, I live in the south, so silk is highly breathable, and small enough to fit under a jacket in the winter.

My first sling was a Maya Wrap and it was wonderful, for a lot of the same reasons I listed above. As to color, I always say choose it like you'd choose a favorite handbag or scarf, as it will be your fun everyday accessory. Whatever color makes you excited is the one you should get!

I would skip the RS and go for a pouch. As a petite mama, I could never get a ring sling to work. My hotsling is very stylish, though, and great for quick carries!

I would also check out Jan Andrea's site, www.sleepingbaby.net. She has a fabulous shoulder style (the only style that has worked for me so far), and has a wide variety of slings, some as low as $20-$25. She has everything from plaid, to linens and silk, and even has some organic and colorgrown fabrics, all for very reasonable prices. She is fabulous to work with, and gets slings out very quickly.
