millions of popup windows

not sure if this is a problem on my end or not..
about a week ago I imbedded a link in a post, and then when I clicked it to open the link, windows to that link just kept popping up. nothing I could do would stop it. I finally had to do a hard restart. Then yesterday the same thing happened while trying to view a link someone else had posted.
it has never happened to me on any other site, but I'm most frequently on MDC so not ruling out that it could be a bug in my computer!
have you heard of this before?

I would recommend running some spyware software on your computer. We don't have any pop ups running.

Your avatar is too cute!!

I don't think that is an MDC thing, it's your computer.

Two really fantastic and free software options are Ad-Aware by Lavasoft and Spybot. You can download and use them totally free. Just google them. Good luck! Panda is really good, too, and saved one of my computers once after it had been hijacked by something naughty, but it costs $20 or something.

I had this happen to me once while I was on MDC a few weeks ago. I opened someone's link (I think it was to a picture) and it just kept opening up new windows. I had to do a hard restart as well to stop it.

I run ad-aware, spybot, and McAfee along with Zone Alarm and according to all of them, there is nothing wrong with my computer. I haven't had the problem since and have run many, many, many scans (it scared me to death).

That definitely sounds like the culprit.

MadiMamacita - If you are clicking someone else's link and getting the pop-ups, it means the site they shared has a lot of embedded ads, once of which may have infected your computer. = /

As others suggested, Spybot, Adware and Avira (what I use for my anti-virus on my netbook - it's free) have fixed me right up when that has happened in the past. IE8 slowed my netbook down to a crawl, so I run Google Chrome on it instead. I do my main computing on my iMac with Firefox, so I'm lucky there.

Good luck!!

I would recommend caution with links on the board. If someone only has a few posts and their posts sound promotional then they may not be sincere members.

We do delete such things when we become aware of them but you might have clicked on something that was inappropriately posted. In such cases running spybot or ad-aware are good options

Make sure it is "Ad-ware" by Lavasoft. Other companies use similar names and then try and make you pay for a report. Ad aware is free.
