Thank you so much for that Emmeline II!I spoke to the lawyer at the dept of ed,and he said my next step should be to write a letter to the principal and get everything in writing.I'm going to write the letter this weekend and send it certified mail on Monday.Then we can take it from there.I am going to try to get in touch with the RI Education Commissioner and see what happens there as well.I'll post the letter after I write it to see what everyone thinks,I want to make sure I do it right.Thanks again!

I don't know what the lawyer suggested, but I'm thinking:

1. This is the law, excerpted from the RI Department of Health blah, blah, blah.
2. This is my exemption.
3. I have completed these steps (1,2,3) in compliance with RI law X. If you have reason to believe otherwise, please explain in detail what part of law X I have overlooked.

I sent in the letter,to the principal,very close to what Emmeline II(thank you again!)had suggested I write.I only heard from them once,when the school nurse called me and said dd HAD to be vaxed.I refused to fight with her,just cut her off and said I needed a letter from them denying my exemption and why,so that I could fight it.She said she'd get it right out to me.Still nothing from the principal or superintendent.I hope they know they are wrong and are having a hard time with this.I'm going to go the board of education as soon as I get the denial letter.

Thanks so much for the responses,you guys sure have made me feel better about this!Still haven't heard anything from the school.Did get the permission form for the h1n1 vax though.Of course my dc will not be going to school those days!

I just listened to the webinar someone posted and the Lawyer/Dr there suggests being specific about your personal religious or ethical opposition to vaccinations when you write your exemption letter. This is just to show you have specific ones, not to open up a theological/philosophical debate about whether it's good enough (precedent says they can't do that) or to hold you to belonging to an organized religion with tenets against vax (precedent says they can't do that either). But they can question to see if there's evidence you don't have religious reasons at all. He says if yours is a religion with sacred texts it might help to add in scripture in support of your reasons or giving you your reasons. It may be a good personal exercise in faith and self exploration to do it, and help you to feel more confident in your defense in all this. I did mine today and it's quite strengthening in many ways. I sense the reason you're so unsettled about their bs is that you aren't sure you have a valid religious reason. Search yourself, I'll bet you do.

I"m a school nurse and I would never tell someone their child "has" to be vaccinated. That's not my job! And furthermore, the child doesn't "have to be". I would never question a family's beliefs, when this situation arises here I just hand them the form they need to fill out for being an immunization objector.

I still haven't heard from the school.I'm going to send another letter next week if I don't hear something by then.It's been almost 2 weeks since the last letter.I'm terrified to go to a hearing on this.I'm trying to write out my beliefs,and it is so hard to put it into words.I know my beliefs are genuine and sincere,and that I have a right to this exemption,but writing it out is difficult.I'm just having a hard time today.I have so much other stuff going on,this is just adding so much stress on top of everything else.I can barely sleep.I wish the school would just make up their mind,give me something in writing.

I take it as promising that you have not received anything from the school system in writing yet. I would not send a follow up letter, but wait for their response. I also would not do anything else until they put their claims in writing--Period. If they do not put anything in writing, their claims and accusations mean squat. Send your daughter to school and try to focus on other things.

You may find this resource useful: How To Legally Avoid Vaccinations--it's not very well organinized, but it is an invaluable resource. Pay specific attention to the part a little over 2/3 down the page for the steps they recommend when dealing with a school that does not accept your vax waiver.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for not giving in on this fight! Good luck, I have no advice to offer. I know when my husband finishes his law degree, he is going to devote his life to chasing down those who violate these rights... and then head for the big pharma....

This is so frustrating to read and makes me very thankful for my conscientious exemptions (what you are calling philosophical). Fortunately we've had an very easy journey with our non-vaxing. I thought the daycare might turn us away, but they never even blinked, just asked for the exemption and signed him right up.

I, like most of you probably reading this, am opposed to vaccinations. I have brought this letter to my college and it was honored without question. After that I received a job offer at a hospital, showed this letter in place of my vaccinations, and it was honored without question.

Everyone should have this affidavit. After showing it, the hospital where I now work treated me quite respectfully.

I, Your Full Name Here, state Citizen of New York, now make known to all courts, governments, and other parties that:

Being a person of Strong Christian Morals, it is against my Deep, Sincerely Held, Religious Convictions to accept the injection of any foreign substance into my Body or the Body of my Children. This includes, but is not limited to, any and all, Vaccinations, Shots, Tests for Diseases, Oral Vaccines, Epidermal Patches and in any other way that Live or Killed Bacterium, Viruses, Pathogens, Germs, or any other Microorganisms, may be introduced into or upon my body.

This written statement to exempt me from any immunizations, TB testing, and other shots/injections because I hold genuine and sincere personal religious beliefs which are inconsistent with these medical procedures & experimentation. The practice of vaccination and the injection of any foreign substance is contrary to my conscientiously held religious beliefs and practices, and violates the free exercise of my religious principles.

The Hepatitis-A vaccine containing MRC-5 is obtained from human babies that were electively aborted. WI-38 was created from the tissue of an aborted fetus and is used for the rubella portion of the MMR-II vaccine. RA 273 was created from the tissue of an aborted fetus, and is used for MMR-II vaccine. The Chickenpox (Varivax) vaccine contains MRC-5 and RA 273. A conflict arises because my religious convictions are predicated on the belief that all life is sacred. God's commandment "Thou Shall Not Kill" applies to the practice of abortion. The acceptance of these vaccines promote abortion and violates the Sixth Commandment of "Thou Shall Not Kill". The Hepatitis-B vaccine protects against a disease that is only transmitted through multiple sexual partners or street IV drug users and therefore usurps my parental authority to condemn such activity in my child. The acceptance of this vaccine promotes sexual promiscuity and immoral behavior in direct contradiction to the teachings of our faith.

I, Your Full Name Here am exercising my rights under the First Amendment of the US Constitution to receive Religious Exemption from Vaccination & testing.

Thanks for the info Stacey05.I still haven't heard from the school at all.I'm just letting it go.I'm hoping this is a good sign.I've stopped losing sleep over this finally.If it comes to a fight I'll deal with it.I think they just have no clue what to do with us .
