So... what is the going rate for freelancers on the web?

I have been made an offer for by an e-zine, and I'd like to know whether I should consider it. The compensation seems rather low to me, but I have no idea what the going rate is. Please give me an idea what I can expect, mamas - how many dollars per how many words?

Thanks for any replies!

Pay is pretty low.

I've seen some stuff for $3 for 400-500 words. This is pretty common.

$10 for 500 words is middle ground.

$15 and up is good pay ime.

Thanks. That is similar to what I was offered, unfortunately.

I started out at the $5 for 300 words range but now I have my bottom limit of $0.10/word for web content. Anytime I've had someone offer lower, I counter with that and so far every one has come back to me and paid that rate. While there are a lot of markets that have a low per word rate, there are many that do offer a more realistic rate but sometimes it requires negotiation or a bit more time searching for them.

Good luck!

I also ask $0.10/word for web content.
