Do wool/fleece soakers really stay dry on the outside???

I am repurposing some old sweaters into diaper covers, and I am also knitting my first wool diaper cover, and I'm wondering if these things are really going to work. We've used CD for both of our kids so far, but have always used Bumpkins covers, or something similar. I love the idea of wool, but will it do the same job as the plasticy covers? Please tell me any of your experiences with these. Also, any info on lanolizing them and washing them would be great too!

You can get compression leaks where the cover feels damp but not the leaks like you can get with a side sleeping kid and PUL...

Wool is my fav for nighttime and at home - for the carseat and babywearing I tend to use Thirsties but I've used wool with no leaks.....

I haven't had a leak yet with this baby in either wool or PUL (7 weeks old).

I like this link for simple instructions on washing and lanolizing:

they sometimes get damp but not full out wet or leaky. I love my wool and fleece covers. I wash and lanolize about once a month.

I haven't tried fleece, but I've heard mixed reviews on the subject.

Wool, however, has never let me down! A good wool cover (like the aristocrat) over top of a basic fitted like a motherease one size, will keep my heavy wetting toddler leak free all night. It's quite amazing.

My two week old son is at this moment wearing a prefold under a repurposed cashmere cover. I've tried it for short stretches during the day, and I'm going to put it to the test tonight with him being asleep now at 9:50, and I will probably not change him until after midnight (barring any unforseen poop-splosions!)

I highly doubt you will be disappointed with wool... I've always found that a good cotton diaper with a wool cover is pure magic for keeping baby's bum happy and rash free, and also keeping leaks away.

they have saturation limits as with any diapering product.
changed reasonably and lanolized properly you should get the positive experience you are hopeful of.

Thanks for all your answers, and thank you for the great link for how to lanolize the cover. I finished my first knitted cover last night, so I'm very excited to try it out (after I lanolize it).

A lot of people say they use their soakers at night, but what about during the day? Do you use yours on a daily/daytime basis, or just at night?
