How much?

How many ounces did your ebf baby take in a feeding at 6 months, and how frequently?

I think MIL has a tendency to overfeed and may be feeding him when he's actually fussing about not wanting to lay down in a play pen, or teething. He ate this morning at 7:45 and really shouldn't have needed to eat until close to 10 at the earliest. And then after that, around noon, with a good sized nap after that. Yet 17oz wasn't enough by 2pm. I'm very frustrated. I even checked with DH before I left the house today, and he felt 17oz would be plenty, too. Yesterday MIL said 14oz 'wasn't enough' - but Tuesday, 12 oz was just perfect. He really never eats more frequently than 2 hours, often closer to 2.5, at home unless it's close to bedtime.

Is it possible that your DS eats more with your MIL because he finds it comforting? If you're okay with it, maybe she could offer him a paci first.

But to answer your question, DD is 6.5 mos., 26 inches and 14 lbs. She eats anywhere from 2 -5.5 oz. per feed, 3 - 4 times a day between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. So sometimes she takes as little as 8 oz. in 9 hours; or as much as 16 oz. in the same amount of time.

She always empties a full breast at 5:00 p.m., no matter when she last ate. This is her major comfort feed. Then she eats LOTS through the evening and night (i think to make up for eating light during the day).

HTH.

I can only pump 12 oz a day. Babe eats what I pump. She will be 6 months in 5 days. She has been on a 12 oz a day since I went back to work at 7 weeks. no illness, all milestones, proper weight gain. Her last bottle is between 4 and 5. And yes, she nurses at night. Never 'acts' hungry. Still, I constantly worry about supply.

Yes. This is sort of what I was trying to say... BFed babies don't necessarily need to increase the volume of BM they consume as they get older. Your body adjusts the milk to meet their needs.

So KangaTwo, maybe your LO is overeating a little for comfort. There was something on kellymom about babies being more likely to overeat from the bottle...
