Broody in the UK

Hi,

I'm new on here, a friend recommended the site.
I'm a bit of a newbie to forums generally, though I'm on several Ning networks.

I'm a slightly crunchy, hippy-christian stay-at-home homeschooler, very ecclectic (unit-studies, lapbooking, touch of Classical, dash of Charlotte Mason, all mixed up to look a little bit like unschooling!)

I have 4 children, but I always wanted to have a big family. Now after 6 years of DH telling me "four's enough", he has suddenly and inexplicably said, "OK" to the possibility of trying for another baby.:

But now I'm worried, because I'm not far off 40, I'm overweight and constantly tired... I'm also completely rubbish at cooking and housework...

...if I wait until I lose weight and become the perfect domestic goddess, I might be too old!!

I thought this might be the place to get some advice!

Hi Lillb,

I'm new here too. Nice to meet you. I'm just beginning my homeschooling - likely to be mostly unschooling - with our four year old son. And, by the time we try for another baby, I will likely be nearing 40 as well. I'm interested to see how your journey goes.

Cheers,
Colleen

"Don't let fear and common sense hold you back."

I have that on a patch on my leather vest (it's been too hot to ride lately, but I love that one.)

If I let either fear or common sense rule me, I never would have:

Had a second child (he's so AWESOME, we are great buds even now, and he moved out over a year ago)
Learned to swim
Learned to ride a motorcycle
Passed EMT exams
Taken a year of Kung-Fu lessons
Kept working after the osteopenia (earlier bone loss than osteoporosis, a sort of half-way step) was diagnosed
Gotten in the habit of going to ren faires
Learned more enjoyable ways to eat salads - maybe not a big one, but good for me
Started hanging out with cajuns (and loving their food!)
... and lots of other stuff.

Hey! Come to the Moms of Many thread in Parenting! Four is a few there and lots of mamas have good advice on how to make the leap to 5.

I also have 4 and dither over having a fifth almost daily.......

Hi there!

I'm British too but live in the USA - welcome! I've found these forums really helpful - there are so many topics to read about and a wide range of views. MDC is a great place to hang-out online.

By the way, Americans don't know what "broody" means! I always get blank looks when I tell people I'm feeling broody - there's no equivalent expression. And it's such a useful word!

Hope you find some good advice - I'm getting closer to 40 too and want to have another baby asap, but that would only be number 2

Cheers!
