Baby Bjorn potty chair or toilet trainer ring

We started late-ECing at 10 mos, but at 12mos, my LO is getting fairly heavy to hold in position over the toilet. We already have a BBLP, but he doesn't seem that keen on it. So I've been looking at either the larger BB potty chair or the the toilet ring but can't decide between the two.

My dilemma is space vs. independent use/touching the floor...
I'm not sure we have room for the larger potty chair in our bathroom, but we could always keep it out in the living room (which is just as close or closer to where he is most of the time anyway).

On the other hand, he seems to prefer the toilet, and since that's the overall goal in the end, I'd kind of like to encourage that. It'll make it a bit more challenging to get onto as he gets more independant, but I figure I'll still likely be helping with clothing so that's not a biggie. However, it's my understanding that feet touching the floor help with BMs & learning to properly use the pelvic floor muscles.

Sooo, momma's who have BTDT, I'm looking for advice. Which would you recommend?

My 4 month old uses a toilet ring, and he does fine with pooping even though his feet are stretched out forward.

We use potties for the only fact that when she's able to, she can take herself to the toilet without having to ask for help, as well as using it in the middle of the night if she needs to. You can move it to wherever you need it to be (quick access), take it with you when you leave, etc.

We offer the toilet as well, because I want her to be comfortable using one for times when we go out visiting friends, etc.

We're on a potty strike right now so using the potty at home rarely happens (she's just too busy), but she will pee in her travel potty (in the car) EVERY time I offer it.

Sorry to hijack with my own question...but what kind of toilet ring do you use? I haven't been using one with my almost-5-month-old because I assumed they'd all be way to big and hard to hold him on.

My husband went to BabiesRUs and picked the one with the smallest hole and best splash guard. It was this one:

When he has a big pee, it still splashes, but mostly on his belly and legs instead of on me! ;-) And we can just wipe that off.

My baby is about 16 lbs., and this one works great at his size.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think maybe I'll just try one of the cheaper toilet rings, since we already do have the smaller potty. I was a bit worried the toilet ring would still have too big a hole for him, but if it works for a 4mo old, it should work for my 1yr old!
