I would like to start supplementing our family with CLO as soon as possible. I am having a very difficult time understanding exactly how much we should take.
I am slowly but surely working on converting us to TF... more slowly than surely, at this point.
Thus, I'm honestly not sure how much we can count on getting from our diets.
I have bought into the stay-out-of-the-sun, sunscreen-all-the-time thing, so our sun exposure has been very limited. I'd like to eek out a little vitamin D from the end of summer, now that I know better, but I can't count on much.
We're at about 47 degrees latitude here (north Idaho), and a good chunk of the winter months is either too dark or too dreary to get any reliable sun.
Unless my math is way off, it seems like a 2ml serving of this:

Has ~760iu vitamin D. I keep hearing 4,000-5,000iu tossed around - is that how much I should be supplementing? Wouldn't that be like 10ml a day, or ~2tsp? That sounds like a lot, compared to the 2ml-3ml some of you have been talking about...
Anyway, if somebody could please explain this to me, I'd appreciate it. I very much believe we are D deficient (I have not tested, I might try to get a draw done in Feb when I go for an annual) based on past symptoms and our diet. As I said, I am working on our diet but want to start supplementing now, if for no other reason than to meet flu season head-on.
Can you please explain how you came to supplement with as much as you do, how your diet factors into it, how much is too much, etc.?
FWIW, it's me (23 y/o female, 5'5", ~145lbs and trying to lose a few), DH (29 y/o male, 5'11", ~165lbs), and DD (7.5 months, ~27", ~18lbs).
Thanks in advance. Be gentle, I'm learning.
