Starting with a newborn...advice?

I plan on doing EC from birth, both during the day and at night. The exception will be when we're in the car/running errands or out at friend's houses.

Am I crazy to start this way...meaning no diapers at night, etc? Will I be overwhelmed? I plan on just holding a prefold under them for a while to learn their patterns, but I just don't want to be setting myself up for too much.

Thoughts/advice?

Water proof pad for your bed and a big stack of prefolds in easy reach and a hamper you can make baskets into while laying down in bed. Because if you have to get up to change things out every time a newborn pees, you will not be happy.

You're not crazy, but definitely have waterproof pads like sapphire_chan mentions. I used diapers at night until about 3 months, but at that point, it was a lot easier to just swap out the prefold she was laying on than to undo diapers! And also it's ok to use diapers some of the time if that's easier, there are definitely no hard and fast rules! Enjoy and congratulations!
