Intact America is doing a great job so far, let's keep up supporting the cause and writing letters.

CDC is employing a deliberative, evidence-based process for developing the circumcision recommendations, which allows for both external and internal CDC experts to provide input.
Can anyone say what expert from the prointact side is involved?

CDC will also publish draft recommendations for public comment before the content will be finalized.
good.

many options are still being considered in this process, including simply recommending that health-care providers educate parents about the potential benefits and risks to ensure that parents have the information they need to make an informed decision.
What about ALSO being informed about the purpose and function of the foreskin AND including meatal stenosis and adhesions (others to include?) as risk factors of circ so parents have the information they need to make an informed decision.

In developing its recommendations, CDC is also considering whether circumcision should be recommended for heterosexual adults at high risk for HIV infection in the United States, as well as whether there is sufficient scientific evidence to make any recommendations for men who have sex with men.
Great idea- keep sexual choice for adults to decide

CDC Recommending Routine Circumcision For Male Infants- A Half-Cocked Idea!

I am the mother of three daughters, and am enraged by this news.

"Recent studies have shown that in African countries circumcision reduces a man's risk of infection by 50%; however, those studies focused on heterosexual men who are at a high risk of contracting HIV from female partners. The procedure does not seem to protect men who have sex with men -- the population at greatest risk of infection in the U.S."

Ok. So if one were a real scientist, one might take note of this finding. Hmm... Circ only seems to reduce risk of infection by 50% in men having sex with women, but has no effect on risk of infection by men having sex with men. Maybe there are some variables we've missed in this experiment.

Our idiotic CDC is saying that it's better to mutilate every little boy in this country than teach them to use a condom, and/or wash their penis after intercourse? REALLY?!?!?
ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME!?!?!?

Hm... Mightn't one theorize that the discrepency is likely due to gay men WASHING their penis after intercourse? I'm willing to place money on a bet that they lavish some thorough cleaning on their member after anal intercourse. As opposed to hetero men just rolling over and going to sleep. lol

But seriously, it is really sad that CDC would make a blanket recommendation of this magnitude without conducting any real empirical data, or at least having the collective intelligence to analyze it properly.

I am hopping mad about this one.
I'm going to make some "Half Cocked" tshirts on CafePress, I think.

And I'm writing my representatives and the President. This is some snake oil BS the CDC is trying to pull.

I think someone should point out that in those same African countries, female genital mutilation is rampant, which is probably why the rate of female to male transmission is higher. But I don't have the stats to show it. Anyone else?
