I saw this earlier, it is so sad! I wonder they'll be available on DVD? Or maybe they already are?

Oh, that's sad...on so many levels. It's so shortsighted to cancel the show on the basis that the priority should be on programs that teach phonics and the mechanics of reading.

Most children who are inspired by the joy of books and stories will learn to read eventually. Motivating them to read...that's hugely important!

I thought it was done a long time ago... I've only ever seen old episodes on TV.

It doesn't make any sense that the powers that be are concerned with the mechanics of reading and not the wonder of it. I know that with my children, they learned the rules of phonics and could read, it wasn't until they wanted to read that their skill really solidified. Reading Rainbow made kids want to read. First you have to want to do something, then you can enjoy doing it. It's so sad.

I loved Reading Rainbow. Loved it, loved it, loved it. I was and am such a book lover. I felt so at home with the show. I wish there were more shows like RR on TV these days.

Reading Rainbow is available on DVDs.

Me too.

I've seen some but have only seen really old ones, a lot as old as when I was little on there. I didn't realize it was still being made!

Oh, this was my favorite show as a kid, and DD loves watching it on DVD. So sad

I've heard ramblings on Twitter about a petition to save RR and have it live online? Anyone else heard about this?

We were on vacation last week and my girls were so upset to come home and see that Reading Rainbow was replaced with Clifford.

I hadn't heard this... we don't get the PBS channel, but I know DD used to enjoy Reading Rainbow.
