The Royal Australasian College of PHysicians released this statement on Routine male infant circumcision YESTERDAY 8/28/09. The full statement to come later.
Surprise, surprise! No change in policy: "after extensive review of the literature the RACP does not recommend that routine circumcision in infancy be performed." Other points: the possible health benefits (including HIV) NOT a justification for recommending newborn circ, functional role of the foreskin and distressed feelings of some adult men acknowledged, ethical issues acknowledged including "one reasonable option is for routine circumcision to be delayed until males are old enough to make an informed choice" (though the parents' right to choose is affirmed).

The CDC and the AAP need to see this.
