anyone else have reaction to DTap??

Hi, we have always separated our DDs vaccines and delayed some. She is 18 months has not had MMR or chix pox yet. She just went in for I believe her 4th Dtap and everytime she received that shot she had a reaction-mild I guess(mild fever, pain). This time the next day her leg had 2 large very red bumps on and below the injection site. She also had mild fever, not even 100. She was pretty fussy and more attached. It seemed to look a little better and then the day after that, it turned into 1 big red mark on her leg (over the front of her leg), and also still fussy and had mild fever. She had some loose BMs and now also has terrible diaper rash. Today is the 3rd day, her leg looks better-it is fading consideribably, mild fever still there, but now watching her she could also be teething. The 1st Dtap she received as an infant, she woke up from her nap hours later screaming, fever, had to give her tylenol. I hate all these vaccines. I know this one has the whooping cough in it and wanted to really protect her against that. Has anyone had any experiences like this with this shot or any bad experiences? What did you do? I get soo worried and reading syptoms can still come up to 2 weeks after the shot, rare I know, but has happened.
Thanks!

Yes, DD had only one shot, the Dtap at 2 mo. She didn't stop moving for two weeks after that, she also had a shrill scream. The Dr called it a 'mild' reaction. I beg to differ. What did we do? We stopped vaxing her. I too am concerned about pertussis, she is almost 5mo and her brother is in school. I am still concerned she could catch it this winter. That really worries me. But...what if she has the shot again and has a worse reaction? And what if that reaction doesn't go away?

My point, it is a bunch of what ifs. At 18mo, I wouldn't take the risk anymore. She is old enough that I wouldn't really worry. Sure, if she gets pertussis (the vaccine only protects 80%) It will be rough, but she will probably be fine.

My DH, in an attempt to prove the wonderfulness of vaccines to me, got the Tdap and said his arm was horribly sore for days. He had a hard time lifting it. His psoriasis also flared up and has yet to get better.

I suggest doing some research before her next shots are due. You may decide to keep vaccinating, but either way you will feel more in control of the situation by being more educated on the diseases and the vaccines.

My DS had the same reactions to the DTaP when he was a baby the screaming and hard red lump. Like a good little sheep I listened to the doc when they said it was normal. He got all 4 rounds up to 18 months, each time the screaming was worse. He is completely vaxed to 18 months but we didn`t do the boosters for school. I`ve read so many times how each time the reaction gets worse so I didn`t want to risk further damaging my son.

thanks! I actually did do a lot of research on all the vaccines, thats why I separate them, mainly according to importance level to me as well as combining the chemicals in each shot. I really do hate the vaccines everytime, but I also hate the thought of her getting any of the diseases. As you both mentioned her reaction each time she received the Dtap appeared to be worse, this time being the worse. Thankfully I do not think she needs another one until 5-which if she is going to be in school-would need it to go. But we have a few years to figure that out. When I spoke to our dr. they said the same thing Myboyblue mentioned their dr said how it is "normal". I did not like that answer as well, I do like our dr, they respect our decisions on delayed vaccines and separating. She has not had the mmr or chix pox yet, as well as any flu shots or hep a. We always separated all her others, it meant more shots, but less chemicals at once. Thankfull, she appears to be better today, she slept better last night. Her leg still has mark on it, but considerably faded and her demeanor is a lot better today as well. That does not mean I feel more comfortable about the shot though. How did you guys get your kids in school without complete vaccination schedules?? I know for her to get in school in a few years she would need to complete her shots. Thanks again!

If you do not want to continue with vaccination, there are many mothers here who can advise you about exemptions in the state that you live in. I am sure they will chime in.

My oldest had a severe reaction to his 3rd dose of DTaP. I feel like these reactions aren't taken seriously by the medical community; a child would have to practically flat-line on the table before they stop calling it "normal". Our pedi did offer to write a medical exemption to DTaP, but we declined because we decided to stop vaxing altogether.

Vaccines are not required for school in Canada. Three provinces require you sign an exemption form the other provinces you don`t even need that.

I know that in the states it`s not nearly as easy. NY being one of the more difficult ones I believe.

Yes, my son's leg blew up to twice it's size. He could barely move for a week, and was still limping a month later. He had the shot around 4pm one day, and I called the emergency hotline about three hours later, they told me to come in first thing in the morning, which we did. Everyone in the office came to sneak a peak, all with VERY grave looks on their faces. The nurse who administered the shot apologized about 20 times. Other people came to look, and they whispered amongst themselves from down the hallway. The doctor seemed freaked out and apologized, but said it was a fairly normal reaction (Ugh!!). It was the eerie-est feeling EVER, it terrified me so.

I feel extremely guilty that I ever let my children be vaccinated even a little. After that, we stopped entirely and any future children we have will never, ever receive even one vaccination. I have done way more research now and would never let such a dangerous and toxic item be randomly shot into my child again.

Here are some questions to answer for yourself in deciding about vax.

1. Name of the disease
2. Description of the disease
3. Length of time from initial infection to end of all symptoms
4. Infectious period
5. Normal symptoms of the disease
6. Known serious consequences of the disease
7. Proportion of persons infected developing serious consequences
8. Transmission route of the disease
9. Prevalence of the disease
10. Treatments of the disease and efficacy of those treatments
11. Relevant research about the disease
12. Name of the vaccine
13. Company that makes the vaccine
14. Contents of the vaccine
14A. The significance of whether or not the vaccine is live
15. History of development of the vaccine
16. Known side-effects of the vaccine and rate of incidence of those side-effects
17. Possible side-effects not yet acknowledged by the vaccine maker
18. Relevant research into the vaccine
19. How effective is the vaccine at preventing the disease?
20.What is the vaccine meant to do? (Many vaccines are not meant to prevent infection or transmission).
21.Number of cases reported each year.
22.Number of deaths reported each year from the vaccine and natural disease.

My son had WC at 2yrs despite being vaxed; I also had it (much worse) despite being utd on my vaccines.

Your religious beliefs can change, so you can exempt a previously vaxed child. You could also pretend your child is not vaxed to make life easier.

Some states, like NY(contact Gary Krasner for help -- On the NYS form they request that your letter:

-explains why are you are requesting the exemption
-describes the religious principles that guide your objection to vaxes
-indicates whether you are opposed to all vaxes, and if not, why you are opposed to some vaxes but not others

As long as your letter covered those 3 points then they shouldn't ask for any "supporting evidence".)

and NJ allow the state to question the sincerity of your beliefs; the following is VERY important.

-For a religious exemption you need to be "against the practice of vaccination". If you give your reasons to be against vaccinations as:

"I'm against vaccination because they use aborted fetal cells" - This is a philosophical reason.

"I'm against pre-marital sex and some vaxes are for sexually transmitted diseases." This is a philosophical reason.

Again, you have to be against the the practice of vaccination. For a more through explanation of why this is read the Wexler decision below.

-Also, you DO NOT have to be a member of a religion doctrinally opposed to vaccination. You can be Wiccan, Lutheran, Catholic, Jewish, church of the flip flops, and still claim a religious exemption do to your personal religious beliefs against the practice of vaccination. Dr. Mercola does a good job of explaining this in my Religious Exemptions link below (you may have to register to read it).

-One more thing, you do not want to include specific biblical verses as your interpretation could be challenged. You need to describe your personal religious beliefs.

-Require that all questions regarding your exemption be in writing and give answers in writing. Do not give verbal responses.

Religious Exemptions

The Wexler Decision

To find out what exemptions are offered by your state (for school and such) check here:
http://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/sta...uirements.aspx

http://www.novaccine.com/law-exemptions/

All states except West Virginia and Mississippi offer religious and/or philosophical exemptions, and the supreme court ruled that you do not have to belong to a non-vaxing religion or have clergy sign your religious exemption. Exemptions can be submitted in lieu of vaccination records (I would do it this way).

Quote:
State mandatory vaccination laws have their roots in the 1905 U.S. Supreme Court decision, Jacobsen v Massachusetts. A Swedish Lutheran pastor, Reverend Henning Jacobsen and his son objected to a law requiring revaccination with smallpox vaccine because they had suffered severe reactions to the first vaccination. The nine Supreme Court justices at the turn of the century denied Jacobsen and his lawyers the right to present scientific evidence for harm caused by the smallpox vaccine, preferring to believe the lawyers representing public health officials who convinced them that doctors could predict ahead of time who would be injured by vaccination.

A US Federal Court ruling (binding on NY only) that determined that you do not have to belong to a particular religion to use a religious exemption is:
Sherr v. Northport-East Northport Union Free Sch. Dist., 672 F. Supp. 81, 89-90 (E.D. N.Y. 1987)

Sample Religious Exemption Letter(change the state law reference):

Quote:
To whom it may concern;

(We / I) {First and Last name(s)}, as the {(parent (s) / guardian(s)} of ______________________(name of newborn child) are exercising (our/my) rights under the US Constitution, PUBLIC HEALTH LAW, ARTICLE 21. CONTROL OF ACUTE COMMUNICABLE DISEASES,TITLE VI. POLIOMYELITIS AND OTHER DISEASES, NY CLS Pub Health § 2164 (2002), to receive Religious Exemption from Vaccination, ALL injections, prophylaxis, & testing due to our genuine and sincere religious beliefs which are contrary to the practices herein required.

The U.S. Supreme Court held in Frazee V. Illinois Dept. of Security, 489 U.S. 829, that a religious belief is subject to protection even though no religious group espouses such beliefs or the fact that the religious group to which the individual professes to belong may not advocate or require such belief. This ruling is also reflected in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended Nov. 1, 1980; Part 1605.1-Guidelines on Discrimination Because of Religion.

We do live in NY, which I work in a school and I know, you have to have a dr. letter for the exemptions and I know the dr. is going to require a lot to write something, but I am going to look into all this info everyone gave me and see what i can do. Thanks again!

Not if you use a RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION instead. Three posts up, a very helpful member (Emmeline) posted everything you need to know about that.

My DD had a high pitched cry and cried even in her sleep. She would not look at me for 3 days. That was enough for me.
My DS had this horrible, high pitched scream for 3 and 1/2 hours after getting the DTaP, got a severe cold the following day and stopped smiling at us for a week (this was at his 2 month well child check). We did some natural things that were suggested by people here and returned to our happy baby soon after that. No doctor has ever agreed that it was a reaction that was from the vaccination. We have not vaxed any of our children since.

After receiving the DTaP, my DD had a low fever, red bump at injection site, and a high shrill scream for several hours that evening. We discussed the reaction with her ped, and he said he would no longer vax her with the pertussis portion. She did continue to receive the DT without the P and all other vaxes on schedule until we became more educated about vaxes and discontinued them around 18 months. I think our ped was one of the better ones when it came to vaxing. He only gave one shot at a time (which means we had to go in like every 2 weeks) and would not vax if DD even had a slight cold. However, I do wish I'd been more educated about vaccinating and I wish DD hadn't received any of them. . .but now I know and can spread the word to others
post #17 of 22
DD1 only had one dose of DTaP, I never vaxed her again after her reaction, thank goodness. She had the high pitched scream for hours and hours that day/night, when she finally stopped, she literally slept for 2 days straight. I could barely get her to nurse. I have no doubt that had I continued to vax her that she would of had more serious vax reactions.

That was one vaccine that scared the ....out of us. It is used to create allergies in test animals and is associated with SIDS.

It does not prevent transmission of whooping cough.

another mama with a lo that had a reaction.

guess what he has now at 9 years old? Pertussis. yay us... the cough is not nearly as bad as the reaction.

I don't recall the age. It was last shot of dtp. He screamed the whole way home from doc office. Not screamed but shrill, piercing. That night he came down with a high fever. Nurse said it was "normal". He got very very sick and stopped nursing

Second son had a reaction on his leg. We stopped vaxing when he was 2 months old. I said enough is enough and learned my lesson the hard way.

pertussis toxoid is known for causing brain inflammation. I would never allow another vaccine period... they all have issues.. there is no such thing as a good vaccine...

the likeliehood of catching all the disease we vaccinate for is very small.. not every child will be exposed to all of these diseases naturally... but they are when we vaccinate.. that and more.. many of these supposedly dreaded diseases are mild for the average healthy child.. in any of these diseases there is only a small percentage of people who will suffer negative outcomes.. and without vaccines we wouldn't have the very real 1 in 50 kids with neurological and autoimmune problems... dont' get any more vaccines .. it's not going to kill you but the vaccine can, you can't undo a vaccine, you can't take it out... don't be scared of your own immune system.. the people who's livliehood depends on vaccines will say anything to scare you because they depend on you being scared.. same thing with measles and mumps.. were mild.. doctors would not even be concerned if you called and said "little johnny has the measles" because it was rarely ever a problem.. untill the vaccine came out.. then all of a sudden.. it's all deadly.. bullhorn...rubella i may be concerned about but no way would i vaccinate for it... health hygene sanitation, quarentine are the only sure ways to control disease.. you can't control disease with an injection.. .. they only thing they control with vaccines is you.. and the destruction of your rights to say what goes on with your body... and thier profits and jobs... we have an unbelieveable amount of children that are being systematically injured and the numbers coincide and increase right along with this really bad medical program they force on every child in this country.. go find some exemption forms and keep reading... the insert that comes with the vaccine even states brain inflammation is a side effect of the vaccine...

P in pertussis stands for POISON because the P in pertussis vaccines is not contracted by natural route of infection but injected into the muscle which then travels straight to the brain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a vaccine for pertussis is crazy... why vaccinate the brain for pertussis... are we looking for an autoimmune reaction??? very bad way to fight this disease... very bad for the body.. bad for the brain.. i'd like my childs brain to be protected from this exceedingly bad choice of medical therapy.. can't take it out.. the brain does not excrete toxins well... and NONE OF THEM are free of danger .. they all cause some form of damage...
