Jackson Robert arrived on his due date!! Long

:So this is a little late, but better late than never right? Our little Jackson Robert was born on his due date of Aug 25. I agreed to an induction at 39w6d because of his guesstimated size. I know they say that u/s isn't very acurate, but in our case both my DH and I have very very large heads. We both wear a size 8 hat, and Jackson's head was measuring 43 weeks at 39w.
Also we live in a very small rural town if there were to be any complications they have to fly you out by life flight to a town that is 300 miles away. So that factored into our decision.

So we went in the morning of the 24th at 7:30 for cytotec. When we got there I was contracting on my own every 7-10 mins but I was completly closed with 0 effacement and -3 station. The first dose I didn't feel did anything as far as the contractions. They gave me a 2nd and final dose at 4:30pm and thats when I noticed a huge change. The contractions were coming in pairs. Jackson showed signs of not tolerating labor very well so they gave me turbutaline which spaced them back to 3-5 mins and single contactions.

I was checkd at 9pm and was found to be 3cm with 50% at -1 station. I was able to breathe through all my contractions. DH and I went for lots of walks and they didn't require me to be strapped to monitors constantly. I took long hot showers as well.

At around 11:30 I was very tired and decided to lay down do try to rest between contractions. They had me on the monitor and Jackson's hr was deceling to about 115, then back to normal, deceling, back to normal so I was rolling over from side to side to back to see if that would help. It didn't. At 11:55pm I rolled from my left side to my back and my water broke.

After my water broke the contractions went from being a 3 out of 10 to a 5 out of 10, still manageable with breathing and walking. I asked if I could take a shower and I did. Contractions sitting on the toliet felt good, but the moment I would stand up I would have one that was unbearable. So needless to say I didn't sit on the toliet more than I had to which seemed like every 5 minutes.

I was able to rest nicely between contractions. At 3:00am the nurse called the Dr. in from home because of the decels. She just wanted a 2nd opnion. SO he came in and was okay with them because they were in unison with the contractions and his rate picked up as soon as it was over. I was also checked at this time and found to be 5cm 80% and still at -1 station.

After lots of hall walking, showers and hip swaying 9am rolled around. I was checked and was at 6cm 80% and -1, so they wanted to start pitocin. I started crying as did DH. I felt like my body was letting me down. So after 26 hours I got pitocin. I also asked about pain meds at this time. I made a very hard decision and decided to get an epidural so that I could maybe get an hour of rest. So after a 10min crying session with DH I got an epidural. I slept like a rock for an hour then the epidural wore off on my right side, I could feel all the contractions in a little window of my uterus. Around 11 am they gave me a 2nd blous of meds in my epidural, and that didn't help the "window" at all.

At 12:45 so 12 hours after my water broke they checked me and I was at 7cm 80% and -1 still. So not much progress. All I could think was that they are going to want to do a c-section if things don't start picking up.

I was lying there talking to DH as he was eating his lunch and all of a sudden I felt pressue like never before and asked him to go get the nurse. She didn't want to check me as it had only been 15 minutes since the last check and with my water being broken it carried a greater risk. So I went throuhg a few contractions to see if the pressue was just gas or actually someting. It was something.. I was complete and the baby was at +2. She told me to wait right there she was going to call the Dr.

The Dr arrived and asked me to push during contractions to see if I could due to the epidural. He instantly walked out of the room to get scrubs on. The nice thing about pushing was there was no one there counting, tell me to push longer, harder anything. I did what my body allowed me to do. With pushing came a whole new pain though. My right ribcage was on fire with every contraction. I was able to keep his head down between contractions.

Jackson Robert made his debut 45 minutes after I started pushing. I pushed him out in one contraction. He weighed 8lb 2.5oz and was 20 inches long. His head was 15 and 3/4 in diameter. I had a small 1st degree tear that didn't need any stitches. His apgars were 9. The moment they placed him on my chest DH and I started bawling. We waited almost 4 years for him.

Sitting here holding him still seem surreal. He has taken a liking to breastfeeding as have I.

If you made it this far thanks for reading.

What a great story. I really loved hearing about the process you went through- as far as meds etc. I think its hard when you feel like your body is letting you down, but it sounds like you handled it beautifully ad made the choices you needed to make. Congrats on your little guy!
