how do you dress your baby?

I'm in the process of making the switch to cloth. I put DS in his first cloth diaper yesterday (a GMD red edge prefold with a bummis cover) and immediately realized that none of his clothes are going to fit over it. Do you just get bigger sizes?

Bigger sizes, sweatpants, overalls, a T-shirt and diaper alone in warm weather. I never used disposables so I never knew the difference, but we also used onesies and sleepers without problems.

Size up on the pants, avoid things like denim (poor child couldn't bend to sit), t-shirts and diaper and baby-legs. I ended up making most of my dd's pants (in fleece, jersey, and knitted) because I didn't like what I could find. Now that she's potty trained she's so cute in her jeans!

I have some things that only fit over disposables (so they rarely get worn) & try to buy everything new in larger sizes. Around the house ds wears primarily a t-shirt & diaper. But it is now starting to get cooler so I think I might start using babylegs (although dh thinks they look ridiculous).

Sweatpants, some overalls, one piece jumpers all work really well imo. Onesies I find I need to go up at least one size. I never have problems with sleepers not fitting. I avoid pants like jeans or cargos. They are a pia to get over the diaper & then they always seem to be digging into his belly. Not worth it, plus imo babies should be comfy.

I just size up on the bottoms once they go to more two-piece outfits. If it's a set, I'll get it a size bigger. Haven't had a problem even with my petite little girl. Onesies I just sized up as well.

So at 14 months, her shorts are 18mo or 24mo size.

Thanks!

I'm a big fan of just a diaper and t shirt, but unfortunately it's going to be getting cold pretty soon. In fact, up until about a week ago he was in just a diaper when we were at home.

I just remembered that my friend is knitting him devil pants. I bet those will fit over the diapers... and they'll be adorable!

T-shirt and baby legs....he looks so cute!

I knit their pants - so much fun! that way there is room built in and everything fits.

At home most of the time they go coverless (we do prefolds)

I also find prefolds the least bulky..so we are still able to wear proper sizes...we do preemie prefold folded into an infant one, knitted soaker, and pants..its more snug then a sposie..but still fits.

I use prefolds and haven't had too much of an issue with clothes fitting yet, but she has been in a lot of onesies. I plan on using longies and overall type outfits when it starts to get cold as well as warmer dresses with babylegs. My SIL gave us most of her daughter's old clothes and there were a TON of jeans. I am doubting she will get to wear any of them

Clothes over Cloth

Overalls and one piece outfits like rompers are working well for us. We get a lot of the one piece outfits from Gymboree, Osh Kosh and Carter's. They have long ones and short ones.

I did find it easier with the girls. Dresses look so great with cloth diapers.

I've never really had too many issues using prefolds and covers. If I had an outfit that was a little more snug, I used a Swaddlebees pocket (the trimmest cloth diaper I've found). I'm not sure they make Swaddlebees pockets anymore, though. lol
