My newborn stash just came in!!! ::excitement::

30 newborn prefolds, 6 snap covers. I'm so excited to get the diapers washed and fluffed up, I may actually use the dryer to speed up the process (something I rarely do in summer).

It probably cost more than we would have spent on disposables during just the first month or two, but besides the fact that disposables gross me out, the diapers can be used as doublers later on and the covers have resale value or at least good-person value for donating, so I'm happy.

Yay! Fun day! Enjoy getting all that fluff ready for your new baby!:

I'm expecting a shipment of preemie, infant, and regular prefolds from Little Lions, and another order of Bummis wraps and a few OS pockets from a Canadian online store myself. They should both be here sometime next week.

can you share the brands/sizes?
I just saw your post on ME AF and wondering if you are trying those this time around. Plus, I'm having the debate over getting nb prefolds.
Thanks!

I doubt it was much more if any we went through at least $300 worth of sposies on our newborn.

Octobermom: Really?! Wow, that's a lot! This stash cost $100.

Chel: I got the orange-edged newborn prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers, and some newborn Blue Penguin wrap 'n snaps that were on clearance. I chose the diapers from GMD primarily because GMD prefolds have resale value, which you can't really say about any other brand of prefolds once you're done paying shipping, although I plan to keep these as doublers for a long time after the baby outgrows them. And I got the wrap 'n snaps because my husband loves loves loves the Blue Penguin company and would order our entire stash from there if he were in charge--also because they were almost 50% off.

I've sort of decided not to go with Mother-ease this time around. Their products are top-notch quality and a great value for the money, but dh doesn't like the material their diapers are made out of, I don't like how the diapers don't fit well with other brands of cover, I don't like the Rikki Wraps all that much, and although I love the Air Flow covers, it seems like they get put on inside out and backwards whenever I'm not the one doing the changing. Plus they don't hold unfastened prefolds, and I like having that option and dh especially does. Dh and I both got to where we really preferred front-snapping covers with dd.

I think it's worth it to get newborn sizes if you have the money. At least for us, although dd was on the tall side of average for most of the diapering years, for the first month she was tiny and we were intimidated by how tiny she was and it was just really, really nice to have diapers that FIT, even for only a month, Kissaluvs 0 and newborn Bummis mostly. Every minute of that month was valuable! I tried smalls on her (both MEAF and Bummis) and she absolutely swam in them as a newborn. She was hard to fit in prefolds as a newborn, too; the GMD prefolds, both orange and yellow edged, would have worked better than the standard sizes we had, although the difference became much less noticeable once she was a couple of months old.

Sorry to write a novel. Hope the details help.

YEs really we lived in a small town at the time and getting a big package of sposies was pretty near impossible so were were buying like 40 count diaper packages spending around $12-$16 a package and then needing a new package every 2-3 days because we easily went through 15-20 a day. (DD was a NB pooing machine ) add that to all the sposies wipes and yea a TON for disposables.

this is my life right now! I live in a small town and just a had a "near term" baby (5lbs 14oz) I have had my newborn stash all ready to go for awhile, but never considered I would have an early baby! So we've been in sposies since he came 15 days ago. (preemie sizes and newborns) We have easily spent about $60..that's in 15 days! To get a good deal you need to buy bulk which is not any option near my house. Plus by the time i would buy online, and ship, he might have out grown.

My solution wasto buy preemie covers and fold down orange edges from GMD. I think we might have bought our last spoisies!
